Re: After Almost A Decade, SegaMags Becomes 'The Gaming Newsagent'

h3s

I used to read SEGA Pro (I don’t think it was as popular as Mean Machines). I liked the fact that every game from every system had a star rating (I tried to get all the. games had a star rating- I wish there was an Arcade Archives one with all of them in it somewhere).

@retrosumus The features listed for the Neo Geo for me are much more desirable. (It is implied that they don’t carry over to the DC version to me but I might be wrong). I might consider it if it is cleared up. Can’t see why a ported DC version shouldn’t be able to do anything that the Neo Geo can. (But it seems like a deliberately gated feature which I am totally against).

I don’t see why the Dreamcast version has to be inferior. I don’t think this has been an issue before. I am not in the market for £300 neo geo games. I think I will either get it on modern consoles if that ever happens or not at all. I guess if it uses some tricks that still can’t be emulated that could be a problem but I thought Neo Geo emulation was pretty much a done thing. (If it comes to modern consoles a few years later I will be fine with that but I have been known to buy Dreamcast homebrew games..)

Re: Poll: Which Namco System 22 Game Do You Want To Come To Arcade Archives Next?

h3s

For me I am not really bothered about Arcade games like this without the correct controls. Not sure how much I would be willing to drop on a wheel and pedals either. (If there was a gun that supported house of the dead and Time Crisis on Switch I would probably get it for up to about £100. (Think my Arcade Stick was £150 but it is too heavy to go on my lap. (It is a good comparison to how the controls should be at Arcade Club though they always feel too loose for me).

Re: Sega Laserdisc Emulation Has Just Taken A Major Leap Forward

@KingMike archive.org with the Mame CHD full set is pretty easy to get. I can’t imagine once this is completed it will be not available in the same way. (Or is there something that makes these different to the Arcade Laserdisc titles Mame already has ?). Personally I find things much easier than they used to be generally because getting a known good set (Regardless of emulator) is that much easier.

Re: "We've Gone Retro" - New Arcade Bucks The Trend In An Otherwise Gloomy Sector

@Auto2112 I have only been to the Leeds Arcade Cub but I don’t find the machines are well maintained. (They seem to care more about the aesthetics than how well the games play. I would much rather play something with brand new joysticks. Most games in the UK were in generic cabinets when they were a current thing). There is not that many weird imports. It’s definitely better than most but I don’t know whether it is the best.

Re: "We've Gone Retro" - New Arcade Bucks The Trend In An Otherwise Gloomy Sector

This is much worse value than Arcade Club or Heart of Gaming. (Adult pricing of £18 or £20 for all day - Children £10 or £15) loads more machines in both locations.

(I didn’t know Heart of Gaming had moved from Acton to Croydon but intend to go with my cousins daughter (Not sure what that makes her in relation to me) soon.)

Arcade Club you can stay for 12 hours if you want. (Heart of Gaming 7 hours). I usually stay about 4 hours at Arcade Club. (Usually because people I am with want to leave).

Re: "It's Easier To Just Walk Away" - Developer Of PS1 Emulator DuckStation Threatens To End Linux Support

h3s

Al lot of the people making modern Linux software don’t make it easy for packagers. Especially people using rust crates / go GitHub modules / npm for node.js etc etc. I am fine with using upstream stuff directly installed to /opt but I do feel for the maintainers for such as Debias because the work necessary for security on those type of apps seems like an absolute nightmare. (I don’t know why developers choose to use so many of the new shiny bits added to the latest and greatest. Especially if they expect it to be packaged. It would be different if they helped back porting security fixes but for the most part they leave all that work to distro security teams (Who in the case of Debian are volunteers).

Re: Resident Evil Just Got A New Arcade Game, But You'll Have To Travel To Romford To Play It

@Zeebor15 The current Namco Arcades are not as good as the old Namco Station that used to be near the London Eye. (Arcade Club is good for what it is but they don’t replace the sticks / buttons when I think they need to be).

The Namco Station near the London Eye had a similar selection of games (Of the age I am most interested in) but everything was always in immaculate condition.

Re: Palmer Luckey's Nintendo 64 Clone Will Cost $199 For Early Adopters

@MegaManFan I like to believe that Iawata or Myamoto would have rebuilt Mario Kart and DK from scratch if necessary to properly for Switch 2 (e.g using VRR / DLSS properly not FSR1). I definitely think they were more honourable in the past. (Now I find Nintendo not significantly different to anyone else). So it’s not impossible I think but I certainly agree it’s not common anymore.

Re: Arcade Enters "Survival Mode" As It Seeks To Avoid Closure

h3s

I have only been to Arcade Club and that one in Acton. (Used to love Namco Station near the London Eye when I was in London around the millennium though).

I would rather have new sticks / buttons at Arcade Club than what they do though. (A lot are in bad condition don’t care at all about the artwork etc. When I was a kid most of the games were in generic jamma cabs but the controls were never so loose which makes some games much more difficult than they would be otherwise.)

Re: "The Xbox Project Has Failed" - Picking Up The Pieces After Microsoft's Darkest Day In Gaming

h3s

I am pretty happy with my series x (Pretty sure I am in the minority). I did used to get all my indie games on Nintendo but got fed up with them not working properly. Sony is hardly knocking it out of the park with exclusives. At the moment most of the games I want are on the Xbox. (And the VRR is better than Sonys implementation and my soundbar really works better when systems output Atmos). I don’t know whether I will bother with Gamepass when mine expires in December. (It’s a good deal if you are playing the big Day One releases but I am not).

I suppose I am locked in to the ecosystem but I could Switch to Steam. If Valve releases a powerful Home Console I might go for that. There is quite a few Steam only games I want.

If there is still a fixed platform for Xbox then I am not so bothered. (Windows Phone was good in that respect it got upgraded every so often but everything worked well like Apple. If it ends up like PC or Android I don’t want it).

Re: SNK Just Delisted A Bunch Of Its Games From The Google Play Store

h3s

@KingMike The series X Controller works pretty well with iOS/Android. I wouldn’t play on a phone but on a tablet my iPad is much nicer to use than a Switch (Handheld). There is quite a few games I have ended up playing there despite originally buying on Switch. (And the £2.99 modern Symphony of the Night port/the Netflix games etc). I have never used a backbone controller I suppose that is an option for phones).
