In theory I would be thrilled to have this. Not confident that the fidelity of playing on a 3DS will be intact on this monitor so nothing to get excited about yet for me.
The character stylizations and theming and use of varied and bright colors reminds me of the SteamWorld games. They similarly have a strong sense of the game world and they have fun with it, by looks of it. So that’s cool.
I don’t watch many videos featuring hobbyist game rooms and come away
impressed these days (dime a dozen on YouTube it would seem), but that’s darn impressive. The Genesis getting the best kiss is alright with me as well.
The RG ARC was my first foray with these Chinese handhelds since the original GPD XD so long ago, but I have too many little complaints about it when I thought I’d be thrilled with it. I probably wouldn’t go with Anbernic again in the near term
This generation we’ve never had so many emulation products, and I’ve never before seen so much bad emulation, even from companies that had emulated their same software in the past. I’ve also seen a good number of people that don’t have a sensitivity to bad emulation. So the bar has no trouble staying low I think for delivering software emulation in the broader market
@Azuris along the lines of what I mentioned above, another solution would be to have all characters done in the traditional hand drawn pixels in the style of SMW to give it consistency
@Bonggon5 don’t know if you’ve seen cartoon movies from earlier 20th century, but they would have 3D scrolling backgrounds with flat colored character cels overlayed. This reminds me of that in a way
Games aren’t meant for playing, they’re meant for individual sale for a set time, with sales ceasing maybe forever, or maybe until your nostalgia fulfils the metrics of a marketing campaign, but not a minute before then!
In theory these would be great books to have. Very neat way to rally around a classic genre even if gaming and books don’t exactly pair in my brain. I think a magazine format would be a better fit for me
Theyre calling him cool and he has all these friends.. I think they’re ignoring some facts about skunks here. Nobody’s buying into the idea that skunks are cool and popular..
@sdelfin wolf fang I’d had experience with through the PSP and it’s a great one, but Skull Fang I’d not heard of. I looked at both and it looks like the Saturn version is fairly downgraded from the arcade art. Wolf fang is probably more intact on Saturn but I’ll have to check it out next
@Sketcz I love the 8-bit shmups on NES, GB, Game Gear, SMS. So any system can have a good shooting game within its limitations. The SNES wasn’t much of a breeding ground for shmup development so it takes on that comparison with Genesis. Clearly it very well could have had its it’s own flavor of shoot ‘em up
Takes on stuff like this can be wildly inconsistent. Someone can make an unlicensed and unsanctioned fan game and owe the original authority nothing for it, and then further, when it gets negative attention from that authority people get upset it can’t exist. This developer follows the business rules for making a product, but now there’s a take on it that their own vision isn’t sufficient and they owe the original creator some level of input. Some double standards out there it sounds like to me
There was a cool looking game for mobile in development, ‘Shining Force Heroes of Light and Darkness’, that got canceled not long ago. The series doesn’t catch many breaks. They should keep the old art style going and give their fans a true Sega gaming classic with a new sequel
