Very nice to get these classics on apple hardware. I’ve had my iPad Pro for years but it never played a classic video game until today.. lol

So I just fired up 19XX on this app for my iPad Pro in portrait orientation, and I think that’s the best way I’ve played an arcade shootemup in emulator. Very nice.

I’ve only got my iPad to tinker with these iOS emulators and with Delta not yet having full iPad support I’ve not really taken the concept for a whirl. But now I’ve just fired up Abadox on the NES core with my M30 pad and quite enjoyed myself. I might just do more of my retro gaming on iPad via Retroarch despite having all the original hardware readily available for my classic gaming

Purchased the PSIO back in 2017 from Cybdyn. Been pretty happy with it for years now. It does need solder connections to the motherboard to work. I’ll have to look into the new update

Well I shall give it a whirl on iPad even though I have the PSIO hooked up for when I need a fix of PS1

Interesting to read about the Wizards production. I definitely remember the Wizard and it’s SMB3 gameplay. Mostly just another movie back then but featuring video games it did stand out to me, probably because of the adjacent concept of the Canadian game show Video & Arcade Top 10.

It’s the composite connection that grabs me. Is this the only FPGA to have built in composite?

I think on the web the Saturn has a positive reputation. I would go as far to say that some at Sega surely know that. I think the core of the issue is Sega’s internal narrative about the Saturn. That’s probably the narrative that needs to change, but executives at Sega probably fixate on historical sales numbers and don’t see a campaign converting that into mass appeal. And maybe there isn’t mass appeal for Saturn, but if there’s one thing that gives me optimism about the Sega of old, it’s the efforts of the modern fan base.

When I read the headline I thought about how much the Ecco soundtrack reminds me of my young years. That sound really imprinted something in me, even though today that sound driver (and Ecco ST along with it) is commonly slagged off on the web. For me, I appreciate that bit of history.

I don’t get why Sega doesn’t do anything with all their old strategy series. They want Sonic to outdo Mario when they could actually be a competitor with their strategy properties

@notreallyhere part of the difficulty of creating new items for vintage hardware is the temptation to be disingenuous about what you’re putting on the market. Whether its the multitude of operations counting on fooling people about vintage-looking gaming wares, or this LRG business choosing to misrepresent a product when faced with the choice to do so. And no doubt they went that route because standards in this new items for vintage hardware industry are low all around. No one need rise to the occasion in the current collector gold rush

Looks fun. And massive excitement for the next Sequel Wars ep. Blue. These are all nice things in the absence of a Mega Man-centred Capcom. Also working in the Genesis and SNES space resonates with me more than the budget-conscious 2.5D graphics styles used by publishers when revisiting their older IP

FPGA is very compelling to me. The current hardware offerings that house that technology have not been as compelling. So getting emulation on hardware I like using is the current option I’m going with (between the two). But doubtless the form factors for FPGA devices will come along with time. For example that Sega Neptune pitch, which looks like a cooler Sega console than the rather bland looking Analogue Mega SG

Hopefully they can get support making their games exportable for their fans not in Jpn

I am interested in 3DS emulation on Nintendo hardware foremost. But I’m not expecting them to give it the dedication I’d like to see. Which is fine because I’m still gaming on a selection of various 3DS hardware. Just imported a Japan exclusive OG model recently. I did have to replace the bottom panel of that unit, which shows that it’s a system falling into the aged hardware category and emulation will be needed at some point. But also I’d like to be able to recommend 3DS games to friends that will only have access to games on current/new Nintendo hardware now and in coming years.

I certainly remember this brand from previous decades. I’m not sure if I was the victim of the 'friend controller', but ive long had an aversion to third party inputs. Ive imported some from japan that looked interesting and promising but most of them are in the gaming miscellaneous pile now. Currently I’m using the 8bitdo M30 for most things and I’m mostly happy with it.

Neat. Potentially checks a lot of my boxes including the later 2D 90’s-Sonic art aesthetics

Publishers are businesses and preservation isn’t at all within the scope of their business. Preservation isnt selective, it’s the pursuit of any and all. So outside parties with entirely different objectives and motivations and not bound by mandates are the ones that can reliably do that work. Preservation of information in many cases isn’t helped by those in positions of authority and influence. Anyone with a little life experience comes to understand that much.

I have tried the Delta emu on iPad and it seems not too bad except for the current state of full screen. I’ve never used my iPad to game on but I’ll continue to try out these emus as they develop

Around my 5th Birthday my parents took me into a department store that had the NES and the brand new Game Boy on display and asked me which I would choose. I went with the Game Boy and that choice really shaped how I enjoyed games up to this day

These are nice options in the face of failing hardware that while no longer a business interest (or possibility) for Nintendo in this case, is still a pleasure to many folks.

I definitely remember having a spot of angst in the PS2 era about older 2D games and having a feeling that they could become lost in the pursuit of powerful 3D machines. Back then (and even just a few years ago) it was difficult to see how ‘period gaming’ I’ll call it, could have perpetuity.

CRT technology will be a harder one to preserve for those of us that still associate gaming with a phosphorus glow..

I guess it’s a currency-ification of physical video games and the gold rush is on. And then paralleling it is the industry’s own practice of turning everything within a modern video game into currency, and that gold rush is on. There’s a dollar pursuit on all sides

I’ve got NES cartridges and they’re useless to me. If they were sealed they’d still be useless, but some dude would unload a wheelbarrow of cash for them.. what a world

I’ve an iPhone and iPad but I Im not desperate to put the Genesis or NES library on them. That said, I’ll certainly try out anything that comes along out of curiosity

I bought this game as a kid because the box art looked cool. I was then amazed by that intro. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen on my Genesis or even TV screen before! One of the most nostalgic works of art for me, indeed..
