As someone who played SF2 mainly with the SNES controller I've never understood the all six buttons on the face of the controller setup. You can't hit all three kick or punch buttons at the same time to do a super attack (in games that support it) without taking your right hand off the controller and pressing your fingers on the face off it. Not exactly convenient in the middle of a fight where every tenth of a second matters. I understand the setup on a arcade controller because there your right hand always rest on top of the buttons. With a SNES controller setup you have access to all the buttons at all times just by holding the controller normally.
Such a great game, a classic. I loved how it focused more on gameplay over the endless cutscenes and codec calls. Also loved building up mother base by collecting resources and soldiers. I didn't come away from it feeling that anything was missing after I beat it. It wasn't until I checked online I saw people were obsessed with the "missing" chapter.
The best version of POP imo. Loved the expanded scope of every aspect of the game. It gave the game so much more personality with the different kinds of environments, new enemies, music etc. Like on SNES you find the sword in a dark cave or dungeon. Regular POP all just takes place in very similar looking plain areas which makes it feel very samey compared to the SNES.
@RejectedAng3L The problem wasn't that the original Bubble Bobble was hard to emulate properly. The problem was they couldn't seem to be bothered to do that. That's what I'm worried about, that the devs of this new BB game don't really care to emulate BB Symphony in a good way and just throw it on there doing as little work as possible.
Nice! The single screen sequels to BB never got much recognition so it's great they're finally bringing at lest one of them out again. I just hope the emulation is good. Original BB was in BB 4 fFriends, but it was a shoddily emulated version.
The way these guys have handled the franchise over the years has given me absolutely zero confidence they can do anything worthwhile with it. All they've done is keep releasing shoddier and shoddier ports of Robocod on every format under the sun.
Ahh yes another one of those we slap together a bunch of sprites with different artstyles and call it a day games. It just looks like a mess visually with absolutely no cohesion to it. It just looks so amateurish. At least try and make everything look like it's from the same game when you do one of these.
I've always felt that the current owners of James Pond just snapped up the rights for next to nothing and are just milking it for money as fast and easy as possible. All those ports since the ps1 days have just been poor compared to the original 16bit versions and apparently they kept getting sloppier as time went on. Random changes in music and graphics etc. It's like they don't really care about the game at all. I wish the original creators could get the rights back.
Generative ai should not have been called AI, it's confused so many people. Soon we're gonna have people going "I'll never play a game with ai". Good luck only playing multiplayer pvp games then.
This game is just sad. They turned Duke into a gross sleazy ***** compared to his Duke3D self where he was just a fun pastiche of action movies with some funny quips. And now he's basically just known as his DNF self. Just sad. Duke 3D is a classic and still a great game to this day. DNF is not in any way. Wish Duke wasn't trapped in Gearbox and now 2K jail. I'm sure we'd have gotten at least a throwback retro fps sequel to Duke3D if someone else owned the ip.
I've long since moved on from being impressed with nice pixel art. That is the easy part. Making the game actually good is the tough nut to crack and where 95% of games falter.
@mjparker77 Yeah apparently the devs wife was an alcoholic and threw out all his stuff or something along those lines. Would've been fun to see though considering how good the Rainbow Islands port was at the time imo.
Sigh. Getting the feeling this will follow in the steps of Duke 4ever where Duke was just obnoxious. In Duke3D he was just a fun pastiche of 80's and 90's action movies, but in Forever they just made him super sleazy and gross.
Last time I saw this the vibe was completely off from what Simon The Sorceror was. It looked super cute and sweet. Simon was a snarky arsehole, not a cute cartoon kid.
@Azuris Streets of Rage Remake is great yeah, but that is more the exception than the rule. Didn't much care for the TMNT game, felt more amateur by comparison. Quantity over quality. Going with the NES sprites was a bad move imo. But I get why they did it, much more to choose from and much simpler to edit to create new chars. Just not a good feeling beat'em up I think.
Most of these fan "reimagenings" or "improvements" or fan games just seem so slap dash. Just throwing in characters from different games with different art styles. It just looks so amateur.
I like Sensible soccer, but this guy has been trying to recreate the magic for decades now, with Sociable soccer getting it's first version in 2017 and not exactly setting the world on fire and now going free to play. Can't say I'm optimistic.

Re: Retro Fighters Has Gone Back To Where It Started With The Brawler64 Pro
@Honkshot It just seems so cumbersome and uncomfortable to play like that on a controller, But hey if it works for folks more power to them..

Re: We Could Be Getting A New Version Of NES Cult Classic Shatterhand
Nice! the original is one of the lesser known gems on the NES along with the Power Blade games and Vice Project doom.
Re: 'Chasm' Creator's World War II Metroidvania 'Wolfhound' Looks Better Than Ever In This New Footage
Looks kinda nice visually, but the music being 8bit-like while the visuals are 16bit-like creates a bit of a disconnect between the two for me.

It's really incredible what dedicated talented people can accomplish. Creating the server, recreating the scene files. Incredible!

Transformatobots more than meets the nose!
Re: Core Design's Rick Dangerous Adventures Onto Mega Drive / Genesis Port In A New Fanmade Port
Color wise it looks nice, but I wish they'd actually spruze it up even further. The animations look pretty stiff.

Re: This One-Of-A-Kind Emulator That Lets You Play NES Games In 3D Has Just Left Steam Early Access

Re: Duke Nukem Co-Creator Responds To Adi Shankar's Claim That His "Dirty" Duke Is "Now Canon"
