Is the Konkr also 4:3? If this is 4:3 and cheaper, I don’t think it will overlap. The konkr has a weird name and is too expensive.

Are they going to sell the ROMs or put them on modern console storefronts too?

@_Ex_ Woops, turns out I lied to you. They are 3.95" and 4" screens, not 6" (or 7"); they're 4:3, however, and 640x480. And well-regarded! 4" ends up feeling pretty big on a 4:3 at 640x480.

I haven’t missed the analog stick on mine at all, but I also don’t really play anything that needs a stick.

There are some virtual sticks for emergencies, which work fine for games that only make light use of a stick.

@_Ex_ don’t knock it til you try it. It’s a pretty big screen.

Have you tried anbernics 6” 640x480 stuff? Or one of their units with a square screen?

Realistically it’s $150, not $120, at least for US customers. It needs to be shipped, and they make up for tariffs with shipping. Still well worth it.

I have the 4 button version and love it. My only struggle was Saturn emulation ironically, but I’ll try that emulator.

Konkr is a horrible name, but I certainly wish them luck.

The reason it costs more is because it's not being made by a gigantic megacorporation that can make a billion of them and source a ton of cheap parts. It is a niche device, for sure. I don't get why everyone is so mad about it being niche.

I used to play this while driving my car with my FM Towns car unit. I got used to driving with no hands.

So how does this work exactly? You side load it? Or do you need to do other fancy stuff?

@axelhander there are benefits to having a reflective screen, like being able to see it outdoors, and having huge battery life. Game Boy Color and GBA look great outside. Backlit GBA SP is not viewable outdoors at all. (Front lit GBA SP is.)

@NoirConceit well considering it’s a Spanish/Portuguese word, a lot more people pronounce it in the Spanish/Portuguese way. Why would it be a different pronunciation for the computer versus the actual word?

British and Americans both suck at pronouncing foreign words.

@lordlad what emulator do you use to run Saturn? I’ve tried three and each had issues. Meanwhile everything else I’ve tried runs great.

I’ve got the grey 4-button variant and love it.

That said, shipping is slow and expensive to compensate for tariffs. So this is really a $150 console (and is worth it). There’s nothing else quite like it without spending a lot more.

I’m happy with my grey one, which looks a lot like the OG dmg. This black one does not really scream mega drive to me…

I’ll be buying the console version (day 1), but I’d sure have liked to be able to buy a ROM to run on FPGA. I’m not interested in a physical cart.

Is there some way to buy this, and lift the ROM out to load up on an FPGA device (for instance)? I wish the website had a “buy the ROM” option.

Price is steep, enough for say the UK-made mister multisystem 2 fpga. But of course that’s not the point, and it has the authentic look and keyboard.

Does it switch anything up compared to the first two? I’ve only played some of the first but enjoyed what I played.

They should release it as a trilogy for consoles that haven’t gotten them yet.

@sdelfin that’s what was done on the NES Castlevania 2. The drums shared the same channel as sound effects.

The contra track sounds totally fine, but both Castlevania tracks eat.

I think RG stands for "Retro Game". The number (28, 34, 35) is actually the screen size in inches (2.8, 3.4, 3.5, 4.0). XX refers to the same chipset all the XX models share.

And then... SP is obvious... H for horizontal... and maybe that's it? Still doesn't make them roll off the tongue though.

That’s actually the anbernic rg34xxsp there, with the analog sticks. The rg35xxsp has a larger screen and no analog sticks, while the 34 has a perfect size screen for gba and (for some reason) analog sticks.

I sort of think the 35xxsp is better by far, and it can be had for about the same price.

If a person were only going to play GBA, the the 34 might be the one if you want or can ignore analog sticks (for your gba games??)

The music sounds cool, but it takes a lot of liberties, changing melodies and adding a double kick drum that wasn’t in the original. Not sure I dig that.

If he did an Ys soundtrack the game would be an instant buy for me…

I’d like to check it out! I’ve never been able to figure out how to get FDS emulators to work tho. When it comes time to swap the disk I get confused. I should educate myself.

I had no idea argonaut and natsume worked on any croc games. I… never played any of them… not on game boy or PlayStation.

What’s funny is, as a kid, the humor went completely over my head. I took the game 100% seriously.

Jebus. I’m not a limited run defender, but the constant chorus in every comment section gets old. Kinda throwing the baby out with the bath water if you want physical stuff. I haven’t bought a physical game in years, so I don’t care, but if not for limited run, no one else would be doing these things. They make mistakes, yep.

Great program that actually keeps things running, unlike console releases which get stuck on whatever console.

That said, I’d definitely buy this on console if they could put it out for $10-15
