Jebus. I’m not a limited run defender, but the constant chorus in every comment section gets old. Kinda throwing the baby out with the bath water if you want physical stuff. I haven’t bought a physical game in years, so I don’t care, but if not for limited run, no one else would be doing these things. They make mistakes, yep.
Wow. Many of the comments on this article are dismaying. I’m not sure the “critics” here even read it; if so, they utterly misread and missed the point. Sad to see.
Wow, what a treatise! Great article. I’m lucky to have been well read and well studied (tho it’s actually the European “scene” I’m most ignorant of, ironically)
People drive up the cost of NES games that appear on AVGN, so why not a cheap re-release of this one? Sounds like the improvements maybe cause some issues tho…
@axelhander I’m scared too but some of it gets a little samey knee-jerky! Bethesda could announce 2005-era “radiant AI,” in all its 2006 janky glory, and it would be met with swears and “AI slop!” and insults.
@avcrypt Sure, but you're extrapolating if you mean replacing humans. Humans had to create Quake 2 so the AI could spend ages training on it, after all, then do... this. "Aiding" is the idea, at least at the moment.
Unfortunately, with the way "AAA" demands bigger and bigger budgets and more workers and longer dev cycles, in order to deliver better graphics, AI will be seen as the way to do it... sort of like outsourcing for clothing/etc manufacturing to meet demand and keep prices low.
It’s really sad the way the internet is now used for group bullying when people feel they’re entitled because they didn’t get the first item off the assembly line or someone has blue hair or isn’t their gender.
I’m holding out for the next mister batch that comes pre assembled. I actually kinda like their interface better too. But maybe I’ll end up having to wait so long I’ll get whatever comes after this instead.
It just seems like the mister pi is a little easier to run multiple cores on than the superstation.
I’d guess they’re probably going to be a publisher of other stuff as much as they are an acclaim ip revival house. They already published dead tomb on Xbox. I’d be happy with more stuff like that, solid fake retro stuff.
@sdelfin Super Mario Bros has a bearing on something like R-Type because Super Mario Bros was one of the first games to really do horizontal scrolling well.
@GeneJacket That's a bummer! It ends up hurting their playerbase, since there are like no wireless Xbox controllers except the official one... which is a pretty good controller but is the only controller in the history of the world to give me hand cramps. I used an Xbox One controller til it got horrible stick drift (first time that's ever happened to me, too).
They sometimes make themselves hard to defend. But it does get old seeing the never-changing commentary of habitual hatred every time they’re mentioned.
It’s crazy to me that these things aren’t wireless on Xbox when they’re Xbox controllers. I’m still using a wired 8-bitdo on my series x. Don’t need anything for my switch!
@Bakamoichigei Assuming you get one with a drive belt that works and can get (and install) a replacement if not. They're not as solid and everlasting as the Famicom itself.
Really depends what the thing costs tho, and what the games cost. And if it can capture the magic without a keyboard. No keyboard means no zork I’d guess!
Also looks like kind of a chonky design with some oddly placed buttons
I remember thinking something like this would be cool way back when the first Amazon kindle got released. The first kindle actually had a keyboard, unlike this. But I believe this does have an e-ink screen.
I had no idea he worked on any Castlevania games. No wonder I like portrait of ruins soundtrack so much (not to omit yamane’s amazing work, just assumed it was all her)

Re: Random: This Decade-Old Nintendo Handheld Is Now Worth Almost As Much As A Switch 2
I’d like to sell mine, but there are still a few games I want to play on it that aren’t available elsewhere, sadly. I’m tired of the clunky old thing.
Re: The First Rule Of Street Fighter II's Moves? They Had To Make You Laugh
What’s funny is, as a kid, the humor went completely over my head. I took the game 100% seriously.
Guess it’s sort of like how Japan took wizardry super seriously when it was supposed to be kind of silly.
Re: Sonic Wings Reunion Is Coming To Switch, PS5, PS4, Arcades, And Steam Later This Month
If it’s as good as Andro dunos 2, I’m in
Re: New Dungeon Crawler 'Algolemeth' To Feature Soundtrack From Streets Of Rage's Yuzo Koshiro
It looks pretty neat too. I wish they’d do a console release

@Lup me too! Xbox day one for me
Re: Capcom's Legendary RPG 'Breath of Fire IV' Has Just Got A Surprise Release On GOG
Great program that actually keeps things running, unlike console releases which get stuck on whatever console.
That said, I’d definitely buy this on console if they could put it out for $10-15
Re: Falcom's 'Dinosaur' Comes To Switch, But Don't Expect To See A T-Rex
I’d buy so many of these if they did some kind of English translation overlay.
Re: A Long-Lost NES Port Of Populous Has Just Been Discovered After 33 Years
Yeah 1992 would have been crazy late to release this. Wasn’t there already a snes/sfc version at least a year earlier?

@PowerPandaMods surely you realize the articles author is also the author of the book and Kickstarter of which you speak.

Re: Random: New Video Reimagines Indiana Jones & The Great Circle As A Classic LucasArts Adventure
@Sketcz it’s psychosis! They took the audio straight from the modern game
Re: Random: New Video Reimagines Indiana Jones & The Great Circle As A Classic LucasArts Adventure
I want more retro style lucasfilm games. Thimbleweed Park was probably my favorite.

Re: Microsoft Created A Demo Of Quake II Using AI, And It's Gone About As Well As You'd Expect
This isn’t supposed to be a demo of game creation. It’s supposed to be a rough demo of AI frame generation. People are missing the point.
Re: Yuzo Koshiro Explains What Inspired Him When Creating Streets Of Rage's Iconic Soundtrack
Streets of rage 1 soundtrack was always my favorite of the series.
Re: BAFTA Crowns Shenmue "The Most Influential Video Game Of All Time" In Surprise Result
@Ekkobelli is it still April 1st? XD
Re: BAFTA Crowns Shenmue "The Most Influential Video Game Of All Time" In Surprise Result
Here we were arguing about super Mario bros, and shenmue takes it. And kingdom come 2 and baldurs gate 3 take the piss.
I still think Adventure should have won.

Re: Kingdom Hearts Composer Yoko Shimomura To Be Honoured At This Year's BAFTA Games Awards
Don’t forget the super Mario rpg soundtrack. Even without kingdom hearts at all, she came out of the gate with genius soundtracks.
Re: Legend of Dragoon Producer Denies The PS1 RPG Was Intended To Be Sony's Final Fantasy Clone
@Tasuki I hear praise like this so often.
I tried to like it back then (after being a little disappointed in some ways by ff7), and I just never could.

Re: You Can Now Play Namco's Controversial Cancelled PS3 Remake 'Dancing Eyes'
I kinda like the cover art.
Re: Lost Xenosaga Game Saved From Digital Oblivion Will Soon Be Playable In English
Aw, the art is kind of sweet. I suppose it’s probably meant to be titillating.
Re: Your Name Director "Deeply Touched" To Find Nihon Falcom Still Preserving His Old Art
I wish somebody would have taught me how to work and think too!

Re: SNES Consoles Appear To Be Getting Faster As They Age
How do we know this is a new thing and that they didn’t do this 35 years ago too? It seems to be caused by heat, not age.
Re: Random: "This Is Not What We Were Expecting" - Ex-Nintendo Employee Shares The Story Behind Zelda's Early TV Ads
@Daniel36 yeah what would that have even been? “Hey guys, what is the deal with tektites? And WHERE is Zelda when you need her? I mean really?”
Re: Random: "This Is Not What We Were Expecting" - Ex-Nintendo Employee Shares The Story Behind Zelda's Early TV Ads
I thought the ad was really cool, but I was like 3… It definitely made me think Zelda was some awesome mysterious thing, and Zelda 1 is.
That said, rewatching it now, it’s not as neat as I remember 😂
Re: What's The Most Influential Video Game of All Time? BAFTA Needs Your Help To Decide
It probably should be Adventure/Colossal Cave Adventure.
However, I said Super Mario Bros and presented an argument for that.
Re: What's The Most Influential Video Game of All Time? BAFTA Needs Your Help To Decide
@sdelfin Super Mario Bros has a bearing on something like R-Type because Super Mario Bros was one of the first games to really do horizontal scrolling well.
Re: What's The Most Influential Video Game of All Time? BAFTA Needs Your Help To Decide
It's gotta be something OLD... like Wizardry, Ultima, or Super Mario Bros. 1.

Re: Xeno Crisis Developer Bitmap Bureau Is Working On A Terminator Game
That’s a neat surprise! I hope it turns out great and does well. I want more stuff like this in more genres!
Re: 24 Percent Of Gen Z Brits Own A Classic Gaming System, While 74 Percent Say Retro Is "More Relaxing"
More relaxing? What were they playing? 😆
Although the difficulty is often higher in retro games, there’s way less clutter and junk going on.
Re: The MSXBOOK Is A New Laptop Based On The Japanese Home Computer Standard
That seems kind of awesome. Also seems worth the price.

Re: With Little Warning, Edia's 'Cosmic Fantasy Collection 2' Is Now Available On The Switch eShop
I seem to recall the first collection being a bit of a mess? I’d like to get both
Re: This New Famicom Disk System Game Could Be A World's First
Now if someone could just 3D print me a Famicom disc system

They’re not using anything working designs did, are they? So it’s the original Japanese version, not the rebalanced working designs version?
Re: Yuzo Koshiro Already Has Plans For His Next Game, But It Depends On Earthion Sales
Ancient should make a turn based pixel rpg!
Re: Streets Of Rage Composer Yuzo Koshiro Worked On SNES RPG Terranigma, He Just Forgot About It Until 28 Years Later

Re: Dune, Lost Eden And MegaRace Composer Stéphane Picq Has Passed Away Aged 59
Dune had amazing music. I’m guessing it was the adventure game, not the RTS
