@DestructoDisk the sad thing is the sonic games sell, whether they’re a critical success or not, so sega never really gets it. Depressing. Meanwhile soul hackers 2 (which I really enjoyed, tho needed improvements for sure) has disappeared without a trace, and it’ll be just persona and mainline smt forevermore (which is fine, just like the more obscure stuff too)
Sonic fans are long storied for being abused and coming back, over and over… but what I didn’t understand is they seem to like the abuse! (To be fair I think Sonic frontiers had the skeleton of a decent game, despite being hilariously… uh… not great…)
I had a lunar: eternal blue soundtrack cd in the 90s, Japanese but probably a bootleg. Man I loved that cd. I listened to it almost as much as the lunar: the silver star sega cd redbook audio tracks.
@Poodlestargenerica did people use 3rd party controllers? I remember the 3do controller being kinda iffy in my limited exposure. You could always try out the free version of sc2 free stars on Steam, based on the 3do version; you can plug in a controller.
Hey, maybe you could use your 3do controller? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa………
@Poodlestargenerica I think the pc version of sc2 is plenty more beloved than the 3do version. The 3do version is cool, but one reason it stands out is cause there aren’t many good games on 3do. That said, I would really prefer to play this on console (and I did play sc1 and 2 on pc!)
Hope it holds up! Seiken Densetsu 1 and 2 nostalgia goes a long way with me. I’m still sore we never got 3. But anything after that doesn’t really do it much for me. So we’ll see.
Hmm. The dates listed for what the books cover sure are all over the place! Maybe that’s because it’s by topic rather than chronological? I mostly only care about famicom, game boy, and super famicom, personally.
@Daniel36 I really liked it in dungeon encounters (design by the guy who did the original active time battle in ffiv, its first appearance). It’s aged well! I liked how it would pause in dungeon encounters and had a timeline.
@RetroGames yeah that’s a good point. The snes port really is sad when you think about it. The music would have been the biggest technical hurdle, and I thought it turned out pretty neat. My friend accused me of renting it because I liked the music. I swore the game play was ok… and I guess it was… but it was no rondo! Even the remixing could have been tolerated, but what a bummer overall.
This looks neat! Hope it comes to consoles. What do they mean, action battle system? Is it not turn based? Or they mean Mario rpg style button tapping with the turn based system?
@DestructoDisk I tend to agree with you. But the psx version of sotn doesn’t use redbook audio does it? I think it’s fairly low grade digital audio (all one recorded track vs using midi, and “streamed” from the disc rather than being read as redbook tracks from the cd itself, unless they are tracks not accessible by a normal cd player somehow, but I’m not sure that existed)
But either way, as said, I tend to agree with you, and also hate to shatter interesting dreams/hypotheses!
@RetroGames this is probably neither here nor there, but the version of rondo of blood that made it to super famicom is pretty underwhelming. … just have to think that if sotn started as a super famicom demo sort of thing, then why is rondo on super famicom so impaired. But, again, neither here nor there…
It works ok-ish on the series consoles at least, or well enough that I grabbed sine mora, a few others, and am hoping blue dragon and lost odyssey are cheap to get as well. While this type of thing is always depressing, at least it’s been basically backward compatible on their current gen all this time. Sure can’t say that about ps3 on ps4/5, or wii on switch!!!
@KidRisky no one is celebrating, just stating fact, but there are better reasons. His politics were abhorrent. He’s one of the big reasons the affordable care act lost the public option. He almost ran as John McCains running mate instead of Sarah palin. As a human being, I do not judge; as a politician, you had to vote for the lesser of two evils, and he may have been the lesser. I don’t judge your vote either. But his politics were awful. And he was about as pro-war as they come. His decisions led to lives lost and destroyed, more fatalities than mortal kombat ever had.
Trying to ban video games wasn’t even the worst thing he did. He was one of the most rigidly conservative democrats ever and tried to gimp the party at every turn. He firebombed the public option from the affordable care act, for one. He was a shill. Hate to speak ill of the dead but as far as his politics, f that guy.
I never noticed how much “JRPG” actually gets used until after the Yoshi-P comment. Back in the day, it was not used. CRPG meant console rpg back then, vs PCRPG. Now crpg obviously means computer rpg. And now “JRPG” is basically meaningless—yet still a loaded term.
I played arena but didn’t really get it. Daggerfall was still the best tho! Loved oblivion, but Skyrim removed so much complexity and killed so many of the simulation elements.

Re: The Processor Used In Pac-Man Is Being Discontinued, 48 Years After It Launched
@Soupbones yes, the same! And in the game gear, of course, and the game boy.
I’m trying to remember if it was used in any other systems…
Re: The Processor Used In Pac-Man Is Being Discontinued, 48 Years After It Launched
In my opinion it’s more important for powering the Nintendo game boy, the best selling system of the entire 20th century.
Or was pac-man its first video game use or something?

I’d rather have a golden axe game that isn’t a 3D polygonal crapfest
