From the producers who played Max Payne That 60fps most of the time looks pretty impressive when compared against the compromised 30fps port Max Payne got
I think a missing piece here people don't often mention is that Nintendo has divebombed the reputation of the NES through shoddy emulation with input lag, bad color representation, and being incredibly stingy with what games they chose to represent the library It's a problem plaguing all retro games re-releases, but the NES has had it particularly bad, although there was a bit of a renaissance in the early 2010s culminating in 2016 with the Classic, but ever since it's been NSO, and IMO, it does not cut the mustard
other products: "here's a long-term support plan and clear release schedules"

Oh word? I need to get in on this How old were you when you realized FromSoft's two Xbox exclusive mech games, "Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit" and "Chromehounds", are actually references to the original two factions in Armored Core on PS1, Chrome and Murakumo Now you know
seeing Shadow the Hedgehog in this eventually and other anachronistic characters is gonna be insane hell, even just fleshing out the unused but semi-playable ones like RocketMetal would be super cool the competitive scene for this game is nuts
unfortunately the kind of person intelligent enough to want a sequel to Mark of the Wolves is also the kind of person intelligent enough to know Saudi Arabia is a red line
@Vectrex wouldn't have to worry about being shut down if it was a Nintendo game too, idk why we insist on repeatedly overstating the danger and having a chilling effect on fan projects
@Damo Yeah because they know you're press and are trying to stay on your good side, that doesn't mean the average person off the street is going to have an equivalent experience
Maybe this has the long-promised Saints Row 2 patch that a guy literally died of cancer trying to get out the door, only for it to never be released Just open-source it for crying out loud
Stefanie Joosten was supposed to be directing "Vengeance is Mine", the follow-up to "Wanted: Dead", but uh https://archive.is/k0KZe I guess her schedule's a lot less busy now
This article is great journalism (relative to the level of scrutiny usually present in retro gaming) and it speaks to the direness of people's critical thinking atrophy that so many seem incapable of handling what, to my eyes, seems like a pretty even-handed and responsible read of this whole mess
I love games dearly, they are my lifelong passion, but not to the exclusion of everything else in the world, because if you solely focus on games your entire life, and shut out anything that jars you from your comfort zone, you become a person without critical thinking skills who lashes out at anybody who does, like a non-zero amount of people in this comments section No matter how hard people like this try to shut out the real world, you have to engage with the real world like an adult and develop the media literacy to see things coming and survive them, otherwise one day it will trample you and you won't know what hit you because you weren't paying attention
The difference between Twitter/ModRetro and any other company involved in horrific things is that those other countries aren't being cringe all the time and obnoxious and going out of their way to attack vulnerable people publicly (this is mainly a Musk thing, not really as much with Luckey) and putting it all over their marketing
ModRetro's marketing is plastered with "REMEMBER WHAT THEY TOOK FROM YOU" dogwhistle rhetoric that is like one step removed from "fashwave" which is the whole thing where they were juxtaposing fascist imagery with vaporwave and the VCR font
Luckey's involvement with video games is focused around preying on how people in the retro video game scene tend to have reactionary tendencies, in order to rehabilitate his public image by picking an easy target to influence.
It genuinely feels like he's preying on neurodivergent adults (of which I am one! so I'm not trying to be cruel here) because a lot of them don't want to think too hard about the real world and love to sing the praises of anyone who gives them things that make them feel good
When you start saying "things were better in the past" all the time, it's easy for that mindset to leak outside of video games, and before you know it you're lamenting it being the 1980s anymore in every way, forgetting it was a time when many people could not live openly and many died due to prejudice
Many companies affiliate themselves monetarily with the right-wing for money, and it is what it is, but what makes Musk and Luckey unique is the way they camouflague themselves in "epic memelord" ***** and act like adult children in public, it's been ten years since 2015 and I'm so sick of thinking about "Pepe" and "kek" and ***** like that, doing war-crimes quietly is one thing but when you shove it in my face like a 4chan teenager who just discovered /b/ and you start naming your project to destroy tens of thousands of people's jobs after an old unfunny meme from 2014, I can't hold my breath anymore
If Piko wants to go for the GOG (get it, like go for the gold) their releases need to be better, like, CDProjekt, or Nightdive, everything works in them as they should Games like Glover are still pretty busted on PC, they're the Dollar Store Nightdive at this point, Little League Embracer Who's ever heard of kickstarting a store-front? And "lifetime subscriptions"? I'm sorry but this whole idea is incoherent and it's giving Mike Kennedy
Damn, Bio Miracle Upa? I wonder how much of these are actual ports/new games and how many are emulation
A functioning emulator package for NES and FDS games on this platform would still be interesting though
I wonder if the soundtrack in this version of Space Manbow still shreds
@no_donatello No kidding, getting Lost in Blue back when it came out as a kid I was so hopelessly confused about how to make any headway, not even GameFAQs could help me I loved though, how the game really committed to the seriousness of its premise, something it looks like this new game isn't doing at all, like, that game's systems are so hard because surviving in such a situation would be extremely difficult Why are these kids getting stranded for sh*ts and giggles just because they found an old map? Where are their parents? 😠The DS launch period was so cool, so many intensely stylish games that felt like they were so much more sophisticated right around the time in my life I began to demand that kind of sophistication, it felt like we had Phoenix Wright for lawyers, Trauma Center for surgeons, and Lost in Blue for being stranded on a desert island, all of them committing to their premises in equal weight
I wish this was more like Lost in Blue, something more serious and story-oriented, this just looks like Castaway Overcooked @Serpenterror Survival Kids probably has more name recognition, and bafflingly there's another, completely unrelated game on the iOS and Android app stores right now called "Lost in Blue" that also jacked Konami's entire premise, so that's likely why Idk why Konami only put their name in the smallest possible fine print at the end of the trailer, it's like they're embarrassed to proudly show their logo or something, which doesn't speak well to the game's quality
Once Upon A Katamari's existence has been leaked, so this is likely a stopgap made using an idea that was considered to be compelling, but not enough to carry a full-size game
The real next game is still coming
I hope they got Keita Takahashi back because every game since We Love Katamari has felt like it was missing its soul due to his departure after just two games

Re: Soon, You'll Be Able To Play Diddy Kong Racing Natively On Your PC
these headlines are so clickbaity, Paper Mario has been 100% for ages still no PC port, Nerrel showed Rocket Robot on Wheels and Superman 64 running on PC natively forever ago, still no port of those
it was a little irritating how he showed those as a proof-of-concept with "just to show you can do it with any old game" with an implied undercurrent of "who would ever want to play these", and then nothing ever mentioned about them again, because Rocket Robot on Wheels owns and I want to play it in glorious 120fps
the Nintendo-centric bias comes through even when their fans are talking about their own console's third-party libraries 😩
