@Daniel36 I think I might take a whack at that localization and if someone with higher Japanese proficiency comes along they could iterate on it later (no promises)
Might need to be cut down for text character limits but here's an example, old version and new version respectively:

Old version:

Title: Bear Fist (kanji: Kumaten, pretty obviously trying to make people think of Tekken)

Target Audience: All Ages

Genre: Fighting

The balance is already broken, but...

That's what makes it appealing, according to reviews.

Additionally, for beginners to fighting games or those that struggle with them,

it offers an approach for those who find fighting games difficult.

Auto-adjustment with learning functionality is included.

Although the balance is broken,

the system that ensures satisfying wins and losses is highly praised.

My version:

Title: Soulcalibear II

Rated E for Everyone

Genre: 3D Fighter

Featuring an innovative "Quest of the Claw" mode, unlocks are drip-fed until the roster reaches a record breaking 128 playable characters.

It only took a couple days for players to bust the balance wide open, but...

...that’s what makes it appealing, according to critics and players alike.

Additionally, for newcomers to the FGC, or "cubs" as the game calls them, it makes sure not to send them out to hunt on the first day,

as its "modern controls" option ups accessibility for those who struggle with traditional inputs. A brawl minus the challenge.

With an optional auto-adjusting handicap, extensive on-boarding learns from player mistakes to educate them going forward.

Despite the tier lists being in shambles from day one,

this impressive release has been lauded for systems that ensured that whether casual or seasoned vet, its matches were satisfying, win, lose or draw.

Make a game about playing the other games, walking through a virtual arcade, and forming bonds with the people who work there

Like a Yakuza game without combat that boils down to a single location where the verb is playing the arcade games instead of the combat/minigames
The main character would be a create-a-character self-insert as a first on their engine, and the overarching walking around the arcade and sidequest stuff (similar to the arcade sidequest in Yakuza 0 but denser and with social link mechanics like 7) would be in the Dragon Engine

This writes itself

Re: English Translation Of Cult Dreamcast RPG SEGAGAGA Is Complete, But There's A Catch

PZT

@Sketcz with what you say about it being satire of the game industry requiring nuance, I ought to re-edit it like I did for the script of Starnaut (2025)
which is available now on Steam, the true successor to both El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron and Segagaga at the same time, and also it's a Vampire Survivors
but the satire is almost all gone unless you get the mod I released for it in the Steam community, in which case it goes crazy and there are things I wrote in that roast the industry so well you'd never imagine reading it from another game
iirc there's a bit in there parodying the arcade machine smashing you covered in one of your books? and also Peter Gabriel, in the same lore entry
only in the mod though
c-c-c-check it out

Re: "We're Not Okay Shipping It" - Hyperkin Explains Why Its Handheld Sega Genesis, The Mega95, Has Been Delayed

PZT

I could see how an argument could be made for something slightly wider considering the internal resolution of the Genesis, but such a stretched aspect ratio is unacceptable
It needs good input lag response above all else, it needs to feel as instant as possible. And it's not enough for it to not have tearing, it needs to have a refresh rate synced to the screen
The dogshit game-feel of the Retron5 is unacceptable in 2026

Re: You Can Now Grab Two Of The Best Castlevania Games For Less Than $5 On PS4/PS5

PZT

@JJtheTexan fyi: the reason Requiem specifically never came to anything else is that it's the Dracula X Chronicles versions running in Sony's internal PSP emulator
so they'd have to find another method of running them
I'm sure M2 could figure something out, port the 360/mobile version for Symphony and put together a PC-Engine CD emulator for Rondo and idk why they didn't in the first place

Re: ModRetro's FPGA N64 Uses FPGAzumSpass's MiSTer N64 Core

@Sn0w I disagree with the assertion that simply reporting on it is wrong when TE has done a fine effort of also reporting on people's grievances, but the assertion that he's a warmonger fascist has largely bore out to be correct.
You sound like yet another politically-uneducated person who thinks any attempt to bring nuance and outside context into our hobby is some kind of intolerable intrusion of the Lacanian real, and so you recoil in avoidance, to keep your world feeling small and comfortable.
Those who hold water for the concept that to be nostalgic is to cocoon ourselves in a safe little bubble, who think that keeping the past alive means to escape into it completely, do us all a disservice. Nothing exists in a vacuum.

Re: Three Years Later, And Hyperkin's PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 Clone Is Finally Coming Out

PZT

what a dumpsterfire idea, who has TG16 Hucards lying around but wouldn't also put money on a better way of playing them that doesn't have horrendous input lag
the other Retron consoles are exclusively for normies who don't notice the input lag and horrendous lack of features, there is not a single TG16 fan who is a normie
$100 and not at least being FPGA is inexcusable, the only valuable part is the controller having an original connector
WHO IS THIS FOR???

Re: Palmer Luckey's Nintendo 64 Clone Will Cost $199 For Early Adopters

PZT

doing this with the N64 instead of like, the PS2 or Dreamcast or something that his resources would actually make a unique impact that would be hard to get development off the ground with any other way, is such a "normie billionaire trying to appear relatable" move

it's just retreading old ground, we have a MiSTer core, we have an Analogue console, wtf is the point

anybody who genuinely likes games, instead of pretending to like games (when really what he actually likes is the unconditional friendship he experienced as a kid with multiplayer Goldeneye when he had real friends and not just fake friends sucking up to him for money, which is why it's the N64), would definitely spend the money on better, more creative projects

why is money wasted on the most creatively bankrupt people

this is the exact same e-waste performativity as Musk and his flamethrowers and other similar nonsense
cringe vanity projects meant to further his image as an epic bacon redditor who is Just Like You because he too uses old game consoles as reactionary proxies to push a false schema of reality that things were universally better in the Good Old Days, screaming from his step-stool to anyone who will listen "remember what They took from you!!!" while refusing to specify who exactly "They" is
don't fall for it, he is a skinwalker

Re: Fed Up Of Hearing About Switch 2? This New Book Is All About The Legacy Of The NES

PZT

I think a missing piece here people don't often mention is that Nintendo has divebombed the reputation of the NES through shoddy emulation with input lag, bad color representation, and being incredibly stingy with what games they chose to represent the library
It's a problem plaguing all retro games re-releases, but the NES has had it particularly bad, although there was a bit of a renaissance in the early 2010s culminating in 2016 with the Classic, but ever since it's been NSO, and IMO, it does not cut the mustard

other products: "here's a long-term support plan and clear release schedules"
Polymega: "it exists"
Analogue: "what DAC? we made a DAC? ssshhhhhh....puts finger over your mouth"
