Re: Atari Is Bringing The Former Amico Exclusive 'Breakout Beyond' to PC & Modern Consoles

PZT

I was reading elsewhere apparently Intellivision told them they had the rights when they actually didn't but by the time they found out it was too late, so this has just been sitting on the shelf until Atari was like, you know what this game is pretty good and we have the rights let's put it out
It doesn't exactly feel like Breakout is that reliant on the name though, they could've renamed it to something else because block breakers are as old as time immemorial, but the real question is, is this game a worthy competitor to games like Shatter that appear to have far more going on visually and mechanically, or is it riding off the name? Guess we'll see in time
I do like the Mizuguchian synesthesia element with your actions crafting the music, it's reminiscent of Tetris Effect for sure but it's my understanding bit.trip did that sort of thing predating Tetris Effect

I think it sucks how people who are into this hobby often think that they have the right to live in the past forever and tend not to have a healthy relationship with the present, lashing out when the world outside intrudes on their nostalgia because they let everything else in their life atrophy in the meantime
Worse still is when they try to correct you on stuff, confidently wrong, because they want to pretend everything is okay all the time, when they don't even have the vocabulary to engage with the concepts on the same level as you because they've been gaming exclusively without doing stuff like reading, like I said, it's atrophy, the brain is a muscle, use it or lose it
"It's escapism! Can't you see? It's not healthy!" ~ that one ***** from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance who we all hated but he was kinda right

hmm, it seems even the people who are supposedly satisfied with these turns of events have to perform olympian-level mental gymnastics to rationalize away a tsunami of cruelty and desolation that dwarfs anything we've seen in our lifetimes by orders of magnitude (save for that painting at the Denver Airport with the dude who has a gas mask, an AK and a cutlass), lest they allow themselves to experience even a crumb of buyer's remorse!
oh well, maybe things will be different in our next life, gotta stay positive!

Re: AYANEO's Pocket Micro Gets A Famicom Lick Of Paint

hate to be that person (lol who am I kidding) but the Famicom Micro did actually come out here as the Special 20th Anniversary Edition, it's pretty much identical except for the box and the regionality of the words on the back shell

Re: The NES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy Gets Natively Ported To SNES

hmm, does this new port of NG3 use the limited continues and 3x damage multiplier for enemies from the US version that they put in to discourage the rental market, or the original difficulty from the JP version? ideally there would be a setting in the options menu

Re: The ZX Spectrum Just Got An Amazing New Donkey Kong Port, But Don't Expect It To Be Around Long

PZT

pre-emptively going off about potential action from Nintendo is sensationalist handwringing imo, like, it's not great that it's paid but they have bigger fish to fry
there have been all sorts of sold Donkey Kong homebrews over the years that never elicited any sort of legal action, e.g. Donkey Kong 2 arcade conversion kits, Donkey Kong Pie Factory from RetroUSB, Classic Kong, the list goes on

Re: Pre-Vanillaware Saturn Classic 'Princess Crown' Finally Gets An English Translation, Thanks To Fans

PZT

Hate to be the baron of bad news but unless you're really itching to play this today I suggest continuing to wait, the people who wrote the code and translated script didn't sign off on this and the translation was made with an unfinished version of their work that they have described as being a "0.2" version in desperate need of improvement, as opposed to their "0.9" version they're still working on

Re: Brand New Footage Of "Lost" Garfield Sega Channel Game Emerges Online

PZT

@JackGYarwood Just happened to play it, it was in VGHF's 1994 exhibit, there were also playable stands for Snatcher and some version of Beethoven's 2nd and probably something else I'm forgetting, but unless the latter is an alternative dump those have already been out there of course
It's not an expanded version of Caught in the Act as much as it is solely levels that were removed from the final game, it's the lost "& Knuckles" to the game's "Sonic 3", it doesn't have the levels from retail as far as I can tell I mean unless they're dummied out in the level select or something
