@Xerox1919 I think the opposite happened. Originally, the seller was going to sell the haul to a private collector before the "Video Game Preservation Museum" came along and tried to make their own larger offer by raising money with donors. Donors to the "Museum" that gave more money would be able to select a game and donors that gave less money would get a random game (if it all) from that stash. The "Museum" was never able to raise the funds despite months of trying and then may have trigger the raid by bringing attention to it.

I also don't think this "Museum" is a non-profit entity. It's just another private collector who has a side interest in preservation talking about itself in 3rd person and sounding altruistic. Having joined that Discord, I am still not convinced that the "Museum" is competent or altruistic.
