The developers behind emulator RPCS3 have shared another amazing update on social media, revealing that "80% of ALL PS3 games" are now considered "playable" on PCs. That means a sizable portion of the PS3 library can now be played via emulation with "playable performance" and "no game-breaking glitches."
Back in July of this year, the emulator previously hit 75% (its last major milestone), with the team attributing the 5% increase that's occurred since then to "improvements in the accuracy of CPU, GPU and PS Move emulation," which has caused even more games to make the jump across to "Playable" from an "In-Game" status.
Just in case you've not been keeping an eye on the RPCS3 team's Discord or Twitter/X account, this month, in particular, has seen the group share a bunch of exciting updates regarding their quest to make all of the PS3 library playable outside of the PS3 hardware.
At the beginning of October, for instance, the team shared the news that a contributor named Yahfz had pushed a texture cache fix that resolved "ALL remaining graphical bugs in Gran Turismo 5", including missing shadows, incorrect lighting in mirrors, and car windows flashing white, before revealing that a separate collaborator named kd-11 had also pushed a fix for the "corrupted rear-view mirror" bug in pre-1.05 editions of the game.
This was also accompanied by the news of several stability fixes from the RPCS3 lead dev elad335 that reportedly allow all Ratchet & Clank PS3 games to be played on PC without crashes; new RPCS3-compatible online servers for the Buzz games; and other miscellaneous fixes for titles like Flower and Boku no Natsuyasumi 3, Armored Core: Verdict Day, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Sonic 06, Yakuza: Dead Souls, Blitz: The League II, and Winter Sports 2010.
What's more, it appears the developers are teasing more "major updates" to come this year; though exactly what these are, only time will tell.
