As much as Shinobi 3 improved the gameplay over Revenge, I still give Revenge the nod - the music, enemy and stage variety just give it the edge imo.
After originally being disappointed with Shadow Dancer (Genesis) when it first came out, I find myself like it even more than 3 now.
As a fan of the original Shinobi arcade, I’ve come to appreciate all the callbacks it does to that and the arcade version of Shadow Dancer (hostages, 1 hit kills, etc). It’s one of those games where, once you get good - it really shines.
All 3 Shinobi games on the Genesis are top tier - but i guess i like them best in the order they were released!
Played the demo a couple of times last night (100% on my 2nd play through).
This game shot straight up to my must get list! The gameplay and grpahics are great - gives me Treasure vibes.
The demo is super easy – that would be my one complaint. Also, I'm not sure why a game that will only take an hour to beat would need a save feature...
This article is a bit misleading though - completing the demo does not tell you how to get the full game. It simply asks for you to send a card to the developer for a chance to win a copy of the game. Unless I missed something?
New JSR after the incredible Bombrush Cyberfunk - we eating goooood!
The new Shinobi is the stand out for me. Only one that made me nervous was Golden Axe... I would have loved Dot Emu and Lizardcube to take a stab at that.
I own a Rally Bike PCB (along with other Toaplan games) and it's a hidden gem for sure. Give it some time and you'll be addicted to getting a little further each run. (And jumping onto the truck to take it over in the first stage never gets old)
@KingMike
Monster World was definitely released here in NA. I recall being disappointed by how easy it was (compared to Dragon's Trap and Monster Land on the SMS). Looks amazing though!
Also, regarding Fatal Labyrinth - I remember that and Flicky both being released on budget games ($30 IIRC) - which was unheard of at the time. Both were well worth the price IMO.
Being a huge fan of Revenge, this was such a relief after playing Shadow Dancer on the Genesis. Shinobi 3 felt much more like a sequel to that game - though it didn't surpass it in my opinion.
Decades later, I actually have come to love Shadow Dancer more as well - but all 3 games are top tier in my book.

@Damo But you have 3 versions of the OG Shinobi that are near identical? Are those being consolidated into one?

Re: Poll: What's The Best Playdate Game?
Really looking forward to seeing the results - I'm definitely missing some gems here.

Re: This Week's Arcade Archives Release Is Super Contra
I used to own the arcade PCB - fun game that has a lot of childhood memories.
The only complaint is the arcade version doesn't allow you to continue more than 3 times IIRC.

Re: A Bunch Of Data East Games Have Vanished From The Switch eShop
@-wc-
I'm glad they took them down since that presents another chance that someone else will take another crack at it and do them justice.
Break Thru deserves better.
And no, I'm sort of on the side of do it right or don't do it at all tbh. They were really bad ports.
Re: A Bunch Of Data East Games Have Vanished From The Switch eShop
Good. They were garbage ports - hopefully we get them reworked and released again!
Re: The PC-88 Classic Silpheed Blasts Its Way Onto The Switch eShop on December 21st

Re: Review: Analogue Duo - The Best Way To Enjoy The Entire PC Engine / TG16 Library
Wonder if the Turbo Everdrive V1, V2 or Everdrive Pro will fit in this thing?

Re: Anniversary: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Is 15 Today
Nuts and Bolts was awesome.
I understand the hate it got from most people. I'm still mad about Zillion 2. They just wanted the same game again.
Giant Bomb gave it the game of the year in 2008, those brave souls.
Re: Tanita's PS4 'Virtual-On' Twin-Stick Controller Is Going Back Into Production
Hope to grab one - as long as it works with the PS5 so I can play the VO Collection and Magical VO. That, and it's not an obscene amount of money.

Would be awesome if they release this physically.

Check out S.C.A.T., Gun-Nac and Summer Carnival 92' Recca

Hydro Thunder and Ecco are big games missing from this list.
Soul Cal, Skies and PSO were absolute beasts on the system. I really need to grab a MODE.
