@KitsuneNight My comment obviously was tongue-in-cheek. There's plenty of business decisions made by any other company out there that I can't comprehend. So let's wait and see.
I do think though, that if Switch 2 goes HARD on retro gaming not only with remasters but also with "officially sanctioned" emulators, i.e. a Virtual Console with plenty of filters, language patches and rom hacks too I think they'd be able to monetize big on it!
Absolutely lovely and while 800 isn't much comparatively in the watch world, it's still a lot for a "single function gimick". Sporting a Seiko 5 fully automatic watch that I picked up for 200 and loving it. 300 would be the most I'd spend on a watch. 300 buys you a lot of great watches, including those nice 90's looking Casios.
I do think discussions like this are unnecessary. Indy and Bond are fictional characters portrayed in a certain way. Oftentimes a female protagonist is employed for storytelling reasons and maybe give the (small) female audience something to root for and a laugh or two when the hero stumbles because he was "distracted".
There is no argueing creative choices. They are made and you like them or you don't and creative choices should only ever be influenced by decisions regarding storytelling, the craft and original vision of the characters portrayed, never politics.
All that said, I think even "masculine heroes" like Indy and Bond pale when comparing "body count" to many young, modern, liberal women IRL and there it seems to be somewhat accepted, even frowned upon when one is not so keen about high bodycounts and speaks their mind.
Also since OF is a thing, this discussion is moot anyways.
@AlexOlney The interesting thing is that current mainstream society always thinks it's "on the right track". Now and then. That said if the choice is skippable trigger warning for the minority of easily offended people or censorship, it's of course the trigger warning. But this is only the beginning. Rewriting books from the past to fit into modern narratives is already a despicable practice.
Imagine a world 25 years from now, where all these games we're talking about now will be re-released, with a trigger-warning for the trigger-warning.
Societies change. Always. If they don't, it's tyranny.
I don't think that a content warning is needed for an evolved mind to see how far we have come as a culture. It's literally tapping yourself on the shoulder but also we will be judged by time.
Anyways. As long as something does not get in the way of us enjoying our media, I guess it's not as bad, or something!
Now excuse me, an old SEGA retro game needs a playthrough.
It’s not like trigger warnings do right any wrongs from the past and not everything needs to be commented. If our sensitivities really changed for the better we won’t need a trigger warning or content warning to know if some content is „outdated“ or not, right?
Also changing the past robs us of the opportunity to learn from it as evolved individuals making up a whole species.
Modifying or censoring media in any way is just muddying the historical record - like it has been so often. I prefer the uncomfortable truth over the candy cotton treatment any day.
Funny how the whole Retroarch community tries to get "console blur right" when in reality back in the day all you wanted was clarity, Europeans were blessed with SCART cables for ultra sharp imagery and now in Emulators everyone is trying to get the most blurry RF-signal-like image quality it seems.
Yes and no. I was a SNES kid, now I'm hardcore into Mega Drive gaming. I'm nostalgic for the time and 16-bit style of games as a whole, but not for the games of the Mega Drive. I play them, because I missed out on most of them.
I think the early bird prices are "fine". Just wish that touch screen would work independent of Windows, which it surely doesn't, does using this as a Batocera box looses lots of it's appeal.
Cute, okay. But the hell with the vertical design. All I really want for those old SNES/GBA games is a GBA or even GB-Micro horizontal design (without any extra fluff like analogue sticks). Still waiting...
@Gorejelly Don't worry, normal people don't fuss about gender as much as the TV wants us to believe! What a wonderful experience and well told anecdote! I always wanted to have it back in the day, but never got to it unfortunately.
@RupeeClock Yeah especially since Twitch is like "EVERYONE come and do crap on our platform and EVERYONE ELSE come and WATCH them on our platform" and when they do, they suspend him. Fail. I bet he would still be online if he was a barely dressed e-girl chewing bubblegum all day...
Getting this to play Genesis/Mega Drive, for which it is simply perfect. Oh yeah throw in some PC Engine Shmups and Basically whole of Neo Geo and this is the best handheld you can get!
Hm. It is what I expected. Slow pixelated software scaling with a fixed top-down perspective. I mean. Yay to the effort, but Super Mario Kart this is not. I love the Genesis for what it is, no need to make it something it is not.
@Azathoth Exactly my thoughts. It has that "newgrounds" look, if anyone's old enough to remember that platform. All flash games and short films. Castle Crashers also looks like this, but is a way better game and the aesthetics fit way better than with a horror-themed game.
Can you imagine Splatterhouse in this boring flat cel shaded look? Ugh...
@farrgazer No he just stated HIS hands grew too large, which happened with adulthood. Not everyone has large hands. Some can stand handcramps better. But yes, generally, hands grow larger as we become adults.
I hate how they put those analogue sticks on everything barely able to handle PS1 emulation. I'm perfectly fine with up to 16 bit and some GBA (technically 32 bit, isn't it?). No analogue sticks needed for that.
I'd love to have some modern, sleek reimagination of the original GBA, formfactor wise it was a godsend! Loved it!
Gone too young, that's for sure. But I didn't know "we gamers" are an elitist group based on how hardcore of a game we tend to consume in what kind of frequency. Sorry if I come along "too sensible" about this stuff. Just that whole "us and them" mentality irks me the wrong way in all walks of life.
I get the appeal of such a device, but honestly, with the new raspberry pi 5 I'm just hoping for a fancy, fitting enclosure and off to batocera-heaven it is!
Retrokeyboards never had flash RGB LEDs and of those it's clearly inspired. No one complains if 8Bitdo's Controllers don't feature RGB LED elements like some high-end modern gaming controllers right?
Also it's loud for some office environments? Well firstly it's clearly intended to appeal to retro gamers and makes a great gadget in your retro-man-cave and secondly it's a mechanical keyboard. They are ALL loud except you fill them up with lube and go with foam dampeners and linear key-switches.
So, that said the only downside I see personally is that there is no ISO-DE layout available to buy!
Yes, nice, and yes intrigueing. But expensive. Generally I'd love to just see a modern gameboy equivalent. Monochrome screen with backlight, with the power of the GBA or something. Minimalist gaming. Love it.
@Damo I'd love a simple, modern Gameboy. Sharp, bright LCD or even OLED screen and maybe switchable shells, transluscent, metal, etc... I'd be all over it. Recently, as live gets louder and faster, I've been falling back on the simple joy of playing 4-greyscale games from the Gameboy - and loving it!
Looks good! I'd gladly pay for some official hardware, or something from a third party like that high end metal case gameboy clone - but meanwhile this is fine too!

RETRO-GAMES-STOREFRONT on SWITCH 2 confirmed!

Im intrigued.
Let's see what comes from it.
I'd love to see something FPGA-like to play OG XBOX games from some company out there!

Can't wait, always had an eye on this one!
Re: Someone Has Finally "Fixed" The Mega Drive's Audio Shortcomings
FM synth, while maybe subpar, is a large part of what made the Mega Drive so iconic. Never lose that.
Re: Upcoming Game Boy Title Gunship DX Has Built-In Rumble
LOOKS nice, but the trailer was a snoozefest. Could be bad presentation though.
Re: Anbernic Announces The RG28XX With Game Boy-Style Colourway
YES finally NO analogue sticks! Perfect formfactor for everything from GB, GBA to SNES. Love it.

Almost nailed it. Make it GBA classic formfactor and I'm all in.
Re: Miyoo Is Launching The Game Boy Micro-Style A30 This April
@-wc- Exactly what I wanted to say.
Who needs ONE analogue stick on something this small, mainly aimed to play 16-bit 2D games? What?
Crap. Otherwise it looks nice!

This is laughable. I’m old enough to remember better times. It’s not like the old tomb raider games broke anyone’s mental health back in the day…
Education fixed a lot of problems. It’s not too hard to grasp the concept of different times different sensibilities.

Re: Check Out The Game Gear-Inspired Z-Pocket Game Bubble
I'd love to have such a device for GBA games. Just cut out the analogue sticks. Heck the OG GBA had the perfect horizontal layout.
