@Broosh I wanted you to know the limitations, just in case. A lot of these retro systems opted for the flat back design that is so uncomfortable. The 34xx is very similar to the original GBA. I have a frankensteined GBA with a glacier front, indigo back, GBA SP 101 screen, and flash cart and that is a great experience. I do like having a more capable system that is not as precious to me so I can lug it around everywhere. I did order a Konkr Pocket Advance out of curiosity.

@Broosh It's great for 2 button systems. I find the to buttons oddly placed making SNES action games uncomfortable to play,. I tested Super Punch Out and Mega Man X and neither was a good experience on the 34xx.

@Broosh I haven't touched this one yet but the 2 lower buttons on the RG34XX are the same size as the GBA.

@Dramlin I agree! I use both FPGA and emulation but they are different. FPGA chips are different than regular computer chips and likely won't run MAME very well.

I'm unhappy about this, even though it won't affect me. I only play retro games as modern games, other than a handful of indie titles, have failed to entertain me or keep my interest for years now. It's terrible for modern gamers and consumer rights.

@PopetheRev28 A lot of the arcade ROMs are fairly small. Maybe a 512gb micro SD. I have most of the compatible games plus console games and it's all on the 256256gb.

@PopetheRev28 I have a 256gb micro sd and it's been fine so far. I have a decent amount is PSX, GBA, SNES, arcade, and Saturn titles and have a significant amount of space free. Use CHD files to save space.

I'm not sure why people are triggered by the article. I found it an interesting exploration of existing in a capitalist society. It was enlightening to understand and contemplate both sides. I understand that ethical consumption is a myth but I still find myself trying to accomplish that. Thanks for the nuanced article!

I'm in the process of selling off my retro game collection since I really just use my Mister for everything but, damn, this is tempting.

I didn't have an NES growing up so it's hard to play these games. Infidelity's NES-SNES ports make these games more enjoyable for me. I think it's super cool that these projects exist.

@WileyDragonfly I should have been more detailed in my comment. I originally tried running a fan translation of Front Mission on an FX Pak Pro and my old SNES but it crashed consistently at the same point.

I was looking into a Pi recently but it's a deep well to dive in to. I bought my Mister a long time ago and it's become my go-to home console. My portable is a purple Anbernic RG34XX. I'm not against software emulation at all.

I've had a better time running fan translations on my Mister than original hardware.

@eltomo Some Analogue systems have an "unofficial" firmware that allows that. I have one on my SuperNT but prefer using an Everdrive FXPak Pro.

I'm still in awe that my mini PC can run Guilty Gear Strive and every Capcom Fighting Game Collection but not these Neo Geop ports. Why are the video card requirements so high?

The specs for this release are too high for my mini PC. It's weird that my PC can run CvS2 on Capcom Fighting Collection 2 but not this game.

This is the first game that ever made me motion sick; it was great fun until I hit the spinning room. Dracula won at that point.

@Daniel36 The tariffs are illegal because, according to the Constitution, Congress has the power of the purse and has oversight of the financial deadline of the government. Implementing them through executive order is illegal. With one party controlling all the branches, they could do this the proper way. The Canadian response is designed to hurt red states and the stock market is taking. Trump is really wrecking our economy.

@dmg361 Tariffs disproportionately affect people with lower incomes. That's why the United States uses a progressive tax system. It comes down to paying 25% more for goods or be taxed at a rate between 10 and 37%. I'm in the 22% bracket for 2025 so it's a wash for me. If you earn less, it could be difficult.

And pointing out the president is a convicted felon is truth, not a smear.

@Willonious The Canadian and Mexican governments did not actually capitulate. They agreed to do what they promised to the Biden administration in December. I also wouldn't consider Trump a master negotiator. He's bankrupted multiple companies and often refuses to pay his contractors. He's a fraudster with 34 convictions to prove it

@Gillig Just to play devil's advocate, he did modernize the board design lower production cost after Terasic saw the increased interest and raised their price significantly. He's also focused on simplifying the process of getting a Mister up and running. People find that part of the give really unnerving. His company is adding competition which, in theory, should lower prices across the board. Only time will tell.

This is so exciting! I used to play this in an arcade in the suburbs of New Orleans back in the early 90s. It's the only shmup I could ever 1cc.

@SlangWon I don't disagree. As a long time comic book collector, I've faced the art/artist debate constantly. It's impossible to answer because every aspect of our live feeds into every other. Social media really took a sledgehammer to privacy and opened up society to a level of discourse we weren't ready to experience.

@DestructoDisk I bought one of those kits and got a defective board. I exchanged it and the second board wouldn't load games. It's so annoying. I ended up getting a refund but I really wanted to love it.

Classic manga does this all of the time because there are tons of examples of creators - Ishinomiri and Tezuka account them - that used black face for diversity and not understanding the racist history. Content warnings allow classic games to be presented as they originally were while being understanding that society has changed. I'm all for it.

It's hard, maybe impossible, to beat 98. It has the best gameplay systems with none of the unnecessarily complex stuff added later.

I've got to call out SD Gundam G Generation Monoieye! It's one of the most fun in that series and is the basis for SD Gundam G Generation DS. The system has a lot of interesting Gundam games on it but none are translated.

Sadly, I'm fighting with Analogue customer service right now. They authorized a return for my Pocket order. They received the return weeks ago and won't refund me. I'm done with them.
