Everyone's favourite whistleblower, The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, has a new listing featuring a wide variety of classic Capcom titles that have been recently resubmitted for ratings. "A Capcom Classics compendium?" you say. "Must be at least three hours since we got one of those"
But this listing is a little different. All of the titles on the list were games which got home releases. And, in some cases, were available on home formats exclusively. This suggests, and it is just a suggestion, that Capcom is planning a new compendium composed entirely of its 8-and-16-bit home releases - or at least the ones that aren't bothered by external licences, such as the Disney and Marvel games.
The full list of games, from a file downloaded from the (GRAC) website, is as follows:
- 1942
- Breath of Fire
- Breath of Fire II
- Captain Commando
- Commando
- Demon’s Crest
- Destiny of an Emperor
- Final Fight
- Final Fight 2
- Final Fight 3
- Gargoyle’s Quest II
- Ghosts ‘n Goblins
- The King of Dragons
- Knights of the Round
- Magic Sword: Heroic Fantasy
- Mega Man
- Mega Man 2
- Mega Man 3
- Mega Man 4
- Mega Man 5
- Mega Man Soccer
- Mega Man X
- Mighty Final Fight
- Saturday Night Slam Masters
- Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight
- Street Fighter Alpha 2
- Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
- Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts
- Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
While some of these titles have been featured in their arcade form in numerous compilations - including Capcom Arcade Stadium 1 & 2, Capcom Fighting Collection 1 & 2, the Capcom Beat 'Em-Up Bundle, the ludicrous Capcom Home Arcade console, Capcom Generations, and even Fighting Pass freebies in Street Fighter 6, all of the titles listed also received ports, or were home-exclusive, to either the NES or SNES.
Perhaps the most notable titles on the list are the original Breath of Fire (1993) and Breath of Fire II (1994), both of which made it into our Best JRPGs of All Time list. The Final Fight sequels are also in the mix, including NES chibi variant, Mighty Final Fight (1993), along with more modest hits such as Gargoyle's Quest II (1992) and SNES platformer Demon's Crest (1994)
Hopefully, one plus one equals two here, and there's a new Capcom compilation en route. Well, either that or these are all just queueing up as Fighting Pass freebies. I'm sure it's the former. We will, of course, let you know if such news is forthcoming.
