The developer behind the Sega Saturn emulator Yaba Sanshiro has created a 'PC port' of the legendary JRPG Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Miyaxdev has released 'AZEL -PANZER DRAGOON RPG- Recompiled for PC', which presents the game in HD and widescreen aspect ratio, removes the slowdown, eliminates 'wobbly polygons', and adds a bunch of shaders.
You can control it with your keyboard or controller, and inputs are remappable. You also have ten save-state slots to use during gameplay.
You'll need to supply your own copy of the game (Japanese GS-9076 V1.001, or Panzer Dragoon Saga MK-81307 US / Europe) in .cue/.bin, .chd or .iso format), and it supports all regions.
While the name hints that decompilation is involved here, the developer has been open about the fact that this venture is actually built on top of their famous emulator.
Prior to its release, Miyaxdev said:
"We are developing a tool that recompiles AZEL: Panzer Dragoon RPG (released in the West as Panzer Dragoon Saga) for PC, built on the emulation technology of Yaba Sanshiro."
Despite this, the response has been pretty positive online, given that this is one of the Saturn's most beloved titles and has never received a re-release – Sega has apparently lost the source code.
It's worth noting that Miyaxdev has recently embraced AI when it comes to assisting his coding projects, which could potentially mean it has been leveraged in the creation of this project.
A true decompilation/recompilation of the game is in the works via yaz0r.
