Well over 25 years ago, I recall seeing the first example of what we now call a 'meme'.
The coverage appeared in a British newspaper and focused on the iconic 'All Your Base' meme, which started in the Genesis/Mega Drive port of Toaplan's Zero Wing.
The nonsensical translation was one of the first memes to enter mainstream culture, and even today, people know the phrase but have no idea where it came from.
Clothing brand Kumagumi is paying tribute to the game with its latest range of officially licensed Toaplan gear, but the company opted for another iconic line from the game's intro sequence.
Kumagumi has teamed up with Toaplan rights holder Tatsujin to create the range. Masahiro Yuge founded Tatsujin and previously worked at Toaplan on some of its most famous games.
The range also includes a $149 jacket resplendent with the skull smart bomb from Tatsujin / Truxton. Unfortunately, that's currently on a waiting list and cannot be ordered at the moment.
