Update []:
Sega Amusements has shown footage of House of the Dead: Reawakened, its new VR-based shooter. The game is due to be shown off at the upcoming IAAPA event in Orlando, which takes place between 17th–20th November.
“We’re proud to bring this quintessential horror game back to arcades in our most impressive build to date, all under one simple promise: ‘Dare to Experience’,” says Siraj Elkhawad, CEO of SEGA Amusements International. “With the franchise’s 30th anniversary just around the corner, this means a great deal to us. The House of the Dead brand has defined horror gaming for a generation, and reawakening it like this, for the very first time, felt like the only way to do that legacy justice.”
Nigel Allison, Manufacturing & R&D Director, adds:
“We looked at the most common complaints operators raise about VR hardware, and cable damage topped the list, so we worked with DPVR to develop a custom-designed, armoured HMD cable harness. It’s been load-tested to 286lbs (130kg), and we’re confident enough in what we’ve built to back it with a full twelve-month warranty."
Sega's Justin Burke says that previews have been very positive. "Since then, the questions we’ve had have all been about when production starts and how many units can be shipped,” he adds. Patrick Michael, Head of External Development & Partnerships, says that Sega has seen "players re-join the queue for a second, even third go, straight after finishing" during secret location tests.
Original Story []: Sega's arcade division has teased a new entry in the House of the Dead series.
As spotted by Arcade Heroes, Sega Amusements posted a 30-second teaser for a new game to be announced at the upcoming IAAPA 2026, which takes place in November.
The gothic trailer showed two guns that, according to Arcade Heroes, were also used in the 2022 coin-op VR Agent, a collaboration between Sega and 3MindWave. The site also says it has confirmed the game will use VR tech.
Arcade Heroes did some more digging and found that Sega Amusements’ official website has a page for House of the Dead Reawakened. The site also notes that Attractions Magazine has referenced the game's title and stated that it will be running on Unreal Engine 5.
The same magazine notes that the game will include "a miniature themed façade", complete with an "85-inch display functioning as its front door and two 43-inch vertical displays serving as shuttered windows."
Sega's light gun series kicked off all the way back in 1997. Since then, it has received four arcade sequels, with the most recent entry being 2018's House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.
We've also seen console-exclusive spin-offs, such as House of the Dead: Overkill and The Typing Of The Dead. The side-scrolling brawler Zombie Revenge is also considered to be part of the same series.
The series has also been adapted into two movies, and we've got another one on the horizon.
