Developer Anbernic released a new demonstration video highlighting its newest handheld hardware, the RG DDS ("Dual Dream Screen"). The portable emulation console opened pre-orders last week, ahead of a currently planned shipping date of December 10.

Continuing its bold/foolhardy (*delete as applicable) reputation of spitting in the face of fear, Anbernic's showcase highlights not only the RG DDS' Nintendo 3DS emulation (minus the 3D, of course) but also boldly demonstrates its PS4 emulation capabilities, comically choosing, of all titles, Activision's 2015 release Transformers: Devastation as its KILLER APP.

Anbernic's public demonstration of the new handheld's PS4 power comes at something of an incendiary time for the company, which is currently under scrutiny from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which has asked the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to put pressure on the emulation handheld market, calling out Anbernic in particular.

Additionally, the company is in hot water with the developers of 3DS emulator Azahar, which claims Anbernic is using "unofficial piracy forks" in its demonstration of the RG DDS' 3DS capabilities. The Azahar group has stated that it will not officially support the RG DDS in the continued development of its emulator. No doubt the group feels that showcase videos, such as the one above, only bring unwelcome attention.

But, as previously noted, Anbernic seems to have no problem whatsoever with flying too close to the sun, at least for the time being, and while Azahar and ESA are already circling the wagons, the developer has chosen to spotlight its new console's PS4 emulation options. Time will tell whether the hammer of litigation is to come crashing down, or whether it is just a matter of verbal complaints and no real action.

In the meantime, the Anbernic RG DDS is available to pre-order from the Anbernic store.
