Re: Namco's First In-House Arcade Game From The Creator Of Pac-Man Is This Week's Arcade Archives Release

Damn that's a brutal nostalgic flashback!
I've been trying to find this game for decades. Played it around 1981-1982, in a local videostore. But back then, I was only 5-6 years old, so I never knew the name or who made the game. For a while there I thought that I might have remembered it wrong or mixed it up with another game. Mystery solved, almost 45 years later 😂👍

Still got a big collection, inkl my very first one, that I got back in 1982 "Parachute". 43 years later, still works like new.

Sold a few, back in the early 2000:s, which I have regretted for over 20 years now, since some of them are very rare now, like the Crystal Screen games.
But this week, I finally found both a Climber and Balloon Fight, so now only Super Mario Bros, is missing, in the Crystal Screen trilogy

I love how they succeeded to make such fun and addictive gameplay, with such limited hardware. Just compare this to the crappy Tiger handhelds, which was just confusing as hell, to play.

Recommend this site, if you wanna try the Game & Watch games ( and many other handhelds as well), though some of them aren't perfectly emulated (timing is a bit off), compared to MAME.

Re: Analogue's FPGA N64 Is Shown Running For The First Time

Wasn't the console supposed to render games in higher resolutions? Because what we see in this video (due to that aliasing flicker), seems to be the same low res as usual?

I'm getting that "Quick, fake a video now!!" feeling from this 🤣

Oh well, guess we'll find out soon...or in 2027-2028.

Re: Game Changer: Super Castlevania IV - Why Simon Belmont's 16-bit Debut Is A Stone-Cold Classic

Exerion76

Back in September 92, I had seen Super Mario World in action, but didn't feel the rush to upgrade to the SNES. Until I walked into the store a couple of days later, and got to experience Super Castlevania IV. It was jawdropping, and the music so damn epic, like I never had heard from any game on my previous consoles and computers. I ended up buying a console and the game, that same afternoon.

Still today, it's one of my favorite games of all times, and my favorite in the series.

@Ristar24
Your old tapes will probably work fine.
I had a forgotten box of tapes, that had been sitting in the attic of my parents house, over 30 years. Through cold winters and summer heatwaves. And when I tested them, all of them still worked, with no load errors.

Those tapes are much more durable, than we thought. The tape drives, might need a new belt, but that is an easy fix. Give them a try, if you still have a working C64 👍😀

Re: Vectrex Mini Is The Next Micro Console You'll Need To Own

Exerion76

Cool.
But I wish it was bigger. Maybe they'll release a full size model, if this sells good enough.
Good choice using OLED, as it's the only modern display, that can somewhat replicate the look.
My good old old Vectrex still works great, but might still pick this up, at sale.

Re: Review: Tiger-Heli (Atari 7800) - There Are Better Ways To Play, But That's Hardly The Point

Exerion76

Definitely better than the NES port.
I love to play ports on different consoles.
If I wanna play the arcade version, then there are "billions" of other choices to do so.
Wonder what would have happened, if the US videogame crash didn't happen, and the 7800 was released in 1984, as original intended.
And if it had more recent arcade ports, from the era, instead of just releasing yet another bunch of ports of Asteroids, Centipede and Ms Pac Man.

Commando was amazing on the 7800, yet another one, beating the NES version.
Same with Ikari Warriors (except the music)

Would love to see more new arcade ports for the 7800.
