I recommend trying them out on emulators or flashcards, before you throw money at them. For me, they definitely are of the "rent for one weekend, play for a few hours, return the cartridge, regretting wasting money on it" category.
I owned a Playdate, for about two weeks, until I sold it. Fun gimmick at first, but the tiny screen and mostly generic games (fun for 10 minutes), killed it for me. Definitely quantity over quality. MUCH better indie games on any other platform.
Pre-ordered. Should we stop buying everything SNK game now? How about the SNK licensed Everdrive carts and handhelds? The collections on Switch? Etc. No matter what we buy, there is always some evil ***hole gaining from it, even with Nintendo. I mostly think that Plaion, is going to gain the most from this, and I gladly support that company.
This is so cool. Always wanted to try this piece of Nintendo history. It's sad that Nintendo themselves don't seem to care about any of their pre-DK/Mario stuff. Would have loved to see the footage being used, in a recreation of the game, for the Switch 2, using the joycons as the guns.
Would love to see the Rebirth series, ported to modern systems.
And a "GG Aleste 4" would also be exciting, or maybe even a new game for the Mega Drive.
Wish we had gotten an official GG Aleste 3 cartridge, so we didn't have to settle with bootlegs 😁
Should just say "Inspired by Ninja Gaiden", as it's the only retro ninja game, it seems to "borrow" from. 😁 Though I love old school Ninja Gaiden, so this is now on my Steam wishlist. Hope it's coming out soon 👍
So many Master System enhancements that I have missed. I got this one, and enhanced speech for Outrun, Space Harrier and the horrible but still charming Altered Beast port. Hearing "Welcome to your doom", in super clear quality, on a master system, is kinda surreal 😂
@jason160uk I'm waiting for the Japan MD release instead. Hopefully we get a release date soon.
Sure, Superdeluxe Games are associated with Limited Run, but they don't feel anywhere near as scummy. And I expect their cartridges to be of better quality. Not gonna murder my MD with a risky LRG cart.
I wanna support Yuzo Koshiro, so we get more MD games in the future. But I hate that he made a deal with LRG, which was a huge disappointment. Hope his future games, are released physically, from his own company.
I already bought the game on Steam, so I don't feel bad about playing the rom on my Mega Everdrive Pro, until the day comes, and we can finally get a real cart in our hands.
Delays? That's always been part of their gig, hasn't it? Take the money and deliver, maybe, a year later. Add terrible QC to that. Hate these companies, as it always ends up feeding the scalpers. They don't care about preservation, only money.
I'm glad that a lot of those titles, often get proper standard editions, over here in Europe.
First, I wish he would focus on finishing Final Fight. And second, I'd rather have midi, over some crappy CD music.
About the AI, if it was just temp music, sure, but on the finished product, he really should add real music. I bet there's a bunch of people, making music for homebrew games, who would be happy to make some for this game as well.
GenAI, really does sound generic.
And after a while you hear the same stuff being used over and over again.
I gave up collecting Evercade carts a long time ago. To me, they started to drift away from the kind of retro games I wanted, and also the QC is pretty mediocre. Wonder how many of these glorified flashcards, will still work 10-20 years from now. And this announcement, made it clear, that they will focus more on 3D games now...
The internet have become flooded with Ai slop.
And it's sad when human artists, are now being questioned if their artwork is real or not.
I just wish that this kind of Ai would just die already.
The band Frontline, have made a new video, that is fully Ai, including the bandmembers. Even parts of the music, sounds Ai generated, as the singer doesn't sound like that in real life anymore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXcuxwCnMK0
I already got a english patched rom, on my Turbo Everdrive card. And the game isn't that great. It basically feels like a Rolling Thunder rip-off, and I rather play that classic instead.
Remove the City Hunter license, and the game would have been totally forgotten by now.
I recommend to wait for a sale, or try the game on a PC Engine emulator first.
Talk about timing, I've actually been playing through the Maximo games, this week. Still as fun today, even though the camera is a bit clunky in the first game. I wish Capcom would remaster them, and make a third game.
Good!
I'm so damn tired, of the industry and internet drowning in AI slop. There is so much AI music and Star Wars crap etc, on youtube now, that it feel like there is barely any real content left.
If I see a AI thumbnail, I wont touch it.
Got an extension on Firefox, that helps to remove all this *****, but haven't found one for youtube yet.
So, yeah, people are getting tired of this ***** now.
Yeah it's beyond stupid... Also, I don't understand, why 3DS consoles are getting more and more expensive. It's not a rare system (like the Virtual Boy) as the 3DS sold around 80 million units!
I rarely collect anymore. ***** like this, is sucking out all the fun.
This is something I want for modern handhelds. Having them fold, to protect the screen, and also being able to have a big screen, and still fit in a pocket. Switch 2 and PC handhelds, are so damn big, I'm getting flashbacks, from the time I had a Atari Lynx 😂
It's insane how bad all these Japanese franchises, got treated in the videogame world. All Macross, Ultraman, Godzilla games, I've played, have been incredibly mediocre.
This was the result of the old "plastic wrap and thick cream" metod, which even could case problems from the beginning, if not done correctly. There are way better methods now.
I even experimented, with just letting the shell of my yellowed Amiga 500, lay in sunlight for about two weeks, without any added chemicals, which also worked. Not perfect but it was way brighter after the sun treatment.
So give it a try next summer. It's just a way slower process.
Maybe he has a modded NES, that plays arcade PCB's instead 😜
Seriously, who cares? (Except for nerdy internet dwellers) 😉
It's a show set in an alternate 1987, where dark dimensions and monsters exist. In that world, maybe the NES was more powerful?
It's fantasy, so make up your own reason why he can play an arcade perfect NES port 😂
Inspired by the classics, sure, but looks too much like a clone to me. It's like they took the enemies from Mega Man, and just did some small changes to them.
They could at least admit, that it was inspired by Mega Man, instead of saying "the classics" 🤣
Compared to Thunderforce IV, MUSHA, Gleylancer, Gaiares, and now Earthion, ZDF is pretty mediocre.
The choice of colors, makes my eyes bleed, and hard to see some bullets and what is actually parts of the background or not. They never listened to the critique of those backgrounds, as it could have been fixed, by reducing the brightness of them , making bullets and enemies more visible at ALL times.
And yes, there is youtube channels, that praise ALL homebrew games, no matter how bad they are.
Like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/@RetroGamerBoy "Wow, look at that, that's AMAZING!". But if you wanna keep getting those games for free, I guess you have to keep being "amazed", by everything, including turds
I'm so burned out by these things. It was fun in the beginning, before these companies started to flood the market, with endless re-releases of the same titles, in different forms. I love Space Invaders, but enough already. Wonder how long they can keep milking this, before the cow is dead. 🤣
It's too small. Should at least have a 12 inch screen. I would gladly pay for a full size cabinet, like the ones from Arcade1up. Evercade could take over that market, as Arcade1up never improved their hardware, and kept releasing mediocre products, with terrible screens, controls, and input lag.
The screen is too small for me. 7-8 inch would be better. The bullets in games like Minestorm is already tiny on the full size screen, so can't imagine how hard it will be to see on 5 inches.
But I hope it becomes a success, so they might make a fill size version, in the future. Hope my original, survives for another 2-3 decades 😁👍

It's NTSC 60hz, but you might need an adapter, as the shape off Japanese carts are a bit different.

R.I.P...

A lot of homebrew musicians, do this for free, just to be part of cool projects like this.
