Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want To See From Tomorrow's Evercade Showcase?

romanista

I expect a neo geo alpha. Sonce i recently bought a sf2 alfa sort of double feeling. But on the other hand. Bought it discounted and when i head a neo geo cart was coming.

I want them to release lots of marquees to decorate the alpha

I expect some more neo geo. Some more amiga carts (i hope for an amiga sensible cart. But i guess).

I would probaly buy anything amiga and most arcade. Hope that they don’t delay stuff again

Re: Evercade's Fourth Showcase Will Celebrate The System's Fifth Birthday

oh nice, when i heard abouth the neo geo kart i bought a discounted alpha... hopefully they'll announce some more...
(probaboy an neo geo themed alpha as well, which will make me jealous but hey .. i had a nice discount...... might by a Tate one though)

And i would like them to free some of the games which are in those hypermega ones... i have an og, and lots of handhelds so I try to resist buying those... but a nice taito collection...

(and the Amiga Sensible Collection, but I guess that will remain a dream.. Apidya on a german amiga collection (turrican!) maybe like delphine's french one? apidya also might be on a second team17 cart since they republished it a few years later, but (un popular opinion) most team17 software isn't that good gameplaywise , just technically)

Re: Creator Of The Shmup Genre Sees "Bullet Hell" As A "Dead-End"

romanista

I understand his point, but he sort of misses what Bullet hell is..

  • they might look more difficult , but often aren't (as argued above)
  • 90s shmups are more difficult

but I agree with him that shmups have an accessability image problem, and while e.g. M2 make some new modes which increase accessability, the are packed into something only the inside crowd will buy (ddp doj, with lots of japanese for example, eventhough it has nice bit sized missions and a beginner mode added)

maybe a shmup based on a well known franchise would help? would love an astrobot shmup e.g.

Re: Review: Evercade Alpha - This $250 Bartop Arcade Is A Glorious Gateway To Hundreds Of Retro Classics

romanista

@-wc- bit late reply but i just bought a discounted evercade alpha.. (lovely device), but you can also give player one a controller, therefore making it equal again..

@koopathegamer lots of evercade games are home computer games (c64, amiga), which were joystick based as well... spend a nice hour playing speedball 2 yesterday.. of and I have an evercade VS as well, but the experience of playing it in arcade mode is the reason i bought this... lots of way to enjoy games on the telly with arcade stick... i use my analogue pocket docket for that...

Re: Interview: "We’ve Certainly Made Mistakes" - Limited Run's Boss On Winning Back The Trust Of The Community

I guess doing this interview at the place where his audience is is damage control 101 (@nebzilla). I guess he can expect some criticism in the comments (although i don't see hate here @scalenepowers).

One of the problems with LRG (as I commented on an earlier article) is he selling a sort of illusion, that you buy a physical thing with intrinsic value. I just spent too much money on some famicom mini gba games because of the packaging, so I buy that illusion too, because the packaging is so cute..

But when you sell that, you know the details have to be completely right, otherwise your buyers remember they are basically buying the rom, that they often already have, in expensive packaging..so CDRs and stuff are a nono... That is why the emotions leads to dead threads.. people feel exposed

It make dme really sad that even our friendly retro-commuty gets so heated up that it makes death threaths to failing suppliers

(I know that there are other reasons for physical ownership, but that is not really with nes roms like rugrats or dreamcars gd-rom)

Interesting sentence about the rugrats case, that they had an already good supplier but changed it... that is a huge risk...

Re: Creator Of New Open-Source Game Boy Disagrees That FPGA Is Superior To Software Emulation

romanista

Ah it is of course a bit of a semantic discussion.. I guess analogue started 10y ago the 'no emulation' branding because they had to explain why their device was 3x the price of e.g. the retron 5 of those days..

My life in gaming just released a compilation of their old fpga videos... in their analogue nt review they copy the ' no emulation' monicker, later they start using 'hardware emulation''....

Of course they both have a place in gaming preservation...software because you can have easy access where you are.. (the best gaming device is the one in your pocket on your lap), and fpga to reduce lag and to understand how they worked on a chip level..

for me personally the analogue pocket really changed a lot.. I use to re-enjoy some carts... I use it to emulate lots of games on the go... I made a sort of mistercade out of it with a turning screen for Tate, and with the analogizer and snac I now enjoy the same device on a CRT tv too... up to 16 bit I'm now in heaven...

sill my Miyoo mini is always in my work bag.. more portable and cheaper..and achievements..

the accuracy for me is visible in the Amiga core.. I play sensible soccer on World Cup level.. and the timing of running is just off on wine cores.. the amiga was a complex beast with custom chips... you can feel the difference there
