@no_donatello Agreed. It's the first Playstation that I don't feel Sony has delivered. If they can't produce at least five exclusives (at least timed before going to PC) I'm interested in by the time PS6 releases, then PS6 will be off the table and I'll just build a proper gaming PC.
@-wc- By modern, I mean PS4/5, Xbox1/S/X, and PC. All three games are incredibly affordable to buy and accessible to nearly everyone. The exception of course, being Nintendo as Shenmue was never released on Nintendo systems. I will add that I find it odd they never released them on Switch with as popular as the handheld is. If all you have is Switch, then odds are, the 4th game wouldn't be released on that platform either, but if it were, hopefully they'd have that recap video in the extras section.
Turning Shenmue 4 into a recap episode is a horrendous idea. Big Shenmue fan here, but no, Suzuki... you're wrong on that one. Recap episodes are boring and easily missed. In fact, I personally skip them almost 100% of the time once I realize what I'm watching.
People have access to all the previous games on the modern ecosystems. If they want to know the story, let them play through the other games or just include the recap video in an extras menu. If you even get to make a 4th game, focus on finishing the story.
Then his plans for a prequel when we don't even have an ending yet? You're being over zealous Suzuki. Focus on the finish line.
I've had a few fixes and upgrades done to my Game Gear over the years. First and foremost, the original capacitors failed and even leaked onto the boards, destroying them. System wouldn't even turn on.
Fixes and upgrades done:
New boards with modern capacitors
Upgraded back light to LED
New glass screen cover
New rubber pads (under buttons)
Works and looks like new now. I've been interested in updating the screen but at the time I was having the above done, McWill was the only option and $200 was far too much. Looks like RetroSix has a more affordable screen at $75. So maybe I'll go back to considering it.
As for this new audio enhancement, $20 is a fair price. I'm just not sure I would consider it as there's nostalgia attached to the horrible speaker sound.
Sadly, I haven't heard of most of these but wasn't into RPGs during the era. I have some thick nostalgia goggles for the Sega CD. While I didn't get a Sega CD until the PS2 days, I had picked up a model 2 to go with my model 2 Genesis. The combo is still one of the more sleek console designs IMO.
Games I'd have on the list that didn't make it on this one.
Jurassic Park - A fun click and point adventure that tried to immerse the player with ambient dino noises and first person perspective.
Sewer Shark - The best of the FMV games probably because they got the button interaction to work properly. Lots of humor and it was fun shooting the ratagators while cruising the sewers.
Corpse Killer - Basically a light gun game without a light gun. I enjoyed this one for the humor of the cut scenes. You could tell the actors were having a blast cheesing it up.
Deadelus Encounter is the only one missing for me and only because it has Tia Carerra in it. Absolute eye candy. I don't recall the game being any fun what so ever though, so probably a good call not adding it to your list.
I enjoyed the likes of Dig Dug, Joust and Pitfall, but I don't see the value in this collection. That said, the 2600 is slightly before my time as I didn't really get into gaming until the NES. Thus, I don't have the nostalgia some will have.
Some good memories there. I think I've done all of these at some point except Earthworm Jim. Have the Game Gear and played the Genesis versions only. Sonic 2 Super Sonic was my most used.
I may eventually pick it up but not at $50 with it being just a port. I'll wait for a used copy somewhere to not encourage Rockstar's continued laziness.
I'm not a fan of the form factor. I wish one of these companies would make something sleek looking like the PSP or PSV. Heck, even Game Gear was sleek for its time.
That's a shame. I'd have considered picking this one up alone for Daytona and Virtua Fighter.
Oh... and I'm calling BS on his excuse. Our cell phones are tiny and capable of PS3 graphics. Ratcheting down to Saturn level shouldn't be a difficult task for modern Sega engineers.
Classic games aren't "Critically Endangered" if they've been backed up and are accessible (even if that's only via piracy). Publishers that own the rights to these classic games know there's a demand for bringing them to modern systems. Cowabunga Collection, Sonic Origins Plus, etc... all prove it. The publishers are either not willing to put up the cash to port them or are lazy.
That only leaves piracy for the most part. Who knew it would be the community... not the corporate shills... that preserved gaming? I think the writing has been on the wall for decades.
I used to have Time Gal on Sega CD. Not sure I'd have the patience for that one these days. Sewer Shark is the last of the FMV games I'd want to collect.
As a Shenmue fan, having preordered the original on Dreamcast and funded the third with over $100, I just don't have it in me anymore to go through the 20+ year history of the incomplete series. We fans lived it already. We know what happened. Most of us have come to terms that we'll never get an ending.
I've dealt with the Nintendo bias heavily as a Sega kid in the 90's. I had both the Genesis and Game Gear and always found both to be better than the Nintendo counterparts... even decades later.
Game Gear for instance, had a bigger, back-lit, and color screen where the original Game Boy's screen... frankly... sucked. Nintendo managed to win due to coming in at a lower price and using 33% fewer batteries. They also kneecapped Sega via contractual agreements with the likes of Konami (among others), ensuring Game Gear never saw games like Ninja Turtles or Ducktales.
When I argue these points in favor of Sega, I'm immediately shouted down by the Nintendo fans who simply say the Game Gear sucked without providing any real reason.
Honestly, I wonder if these retro systems ever belonged to this guy. He looks to be in his mid-20's. Wondering if he found them in his dad's garage and decided to hock them for his drug of choice having no idea what they were actually worth. I wonder if his dad even knows he took them? 🤔
This is a favorite game of mine. The dev did an incredible job on this title from the game itself to the musical score to the logo. I still revisit this from time to time... even enjoying the secret FMV of Goldbloom telling the player to go blow off the stink outside and meet a member of the opposite sex. 😂
I ended up making trading cards of many of my Game Gear game's box arts. Finding quality images of them to fix up in Photoshop wasn't easy. Many of the boxes I got images for were bent or half destroyed with time. Took anywhere from 20 min to 2 hours to get a single one looking new again.
@-wc- Don't get me wrong. Not a fan of Bible thumping but in the end, I feel the Bible is God's word and it provides hope where there is none given in the world today.
Saturn mini is the most likely then. I wonder if instead of a mini, they'll use this information to release HD ports of favorite Saturn games. Either way, I'm hoping for most the great arcade games, Daytona, Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, etc.
I honestly completely forgot this existed. No plans on buying one as the cost is... well... a bit much for the use I"d get from it... but it's a nice looking piece of tech.
Makes me wonder what a modern successor to the Sega Game Gear would look like. Then I recall a video of a fan made 3D model that looked spectacular. Sadly, it seems that video has been removed.
Eh... I was a big fan for the first and second game but if it's a remaster of just the first... I won't bother. If it's a collection... that includes all characters such as Link and I can still buy it on PS5... then I'd buy it. It's a long shot that would ever be allowed though.
I bought SC6 for $20 on PS4 and just couldn't get into it. My interest in fighting games has waned significantly over the years to the point that I'm not sure I'd be willing to buy another from any series.

Looks like a fun addition. Thank God it's Dreamcast graphics. My PC will be able to run it.
Re: Daytona USA 2 Is Finally Getting A Home Port, Thanks To Like A Dragon Gaiden
Sega need to release both Daytona games on modern ecosystems. Rename it if you have to. We'll all still call it Daytona.

You missed Galactic Pinball and Waterworld. I think that would complete your collection. 😄
Re: Best NES Games Of All Time
Not a horrible list. Here are my top NES games:
Re: Best GameCube Games Of All Time
Resident Evil Remake is a glaring omission. Other than that, decent list.
Re: Best GBA Games Of All Time
I'd add Super Dodge Ball. Loved that game.
Re: Where To Pre-Order The Atari 2600+

Re: Best Nintendo 64 Games Of All Time
The only one missing is Killer Instinct Gold. It can take the place of a couple on the list. Overall, good lineup.
Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Video Gaming Experience?
Comm 64 was my first. Alphabet Maze, I think was the name of the game.
Re: Sonic Fans Want To Raise $4,000 To Preserve Insanely Rare 'SegaSonic' Arcade Game
I honestly never knew about this game. I thought Mighty and Ray were created for Sonic Mania. Blew my mind they existed in 1993.
I'd play this. Looks fun and a bit different for Sonic.
Re: GG Aleste 3 Is Now Playable On Original Game Gear Hardware

Re: Hands On: Unboxing Astebros, A Brand-New Mega Drive Game For 2023
I love how it's being displayed as being played on the coveted CDX system. I still wish I had one of those.
Re: Round Up: Every Announcement From The Limited Run Games Showcase 2023
Eh... disappointed that it's only the Nintendo JP games and the Sega ones are left forgotten. Especially as they're the really good ones.
Other than that, Gex might be fun to revisit. I'm not interested enough to preorder anything. If they come to stores to buy, then maybe.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Is Coming To Master System
Thank God someone is doing it. I looked into it after making a mockup video of what it would look like on Game Gear but I'm just not that technical.
Happy to have a Game Gear Everdrive. I'll happily download this when it's available as the Everdrive allows for .sms files.

Re: Flashback: How A Dead Or Alive 'Love Pillow' Gave Xbox A PR Headache
That is a good color on the old brick.
I'm not going to lie. I bought DoA2 for the T&A when I was late teens. I quickly figured out the game was simply fun to play as well.
As for the laughable MS values... it's been covered in the comments already.
