Re: Yu Suzuki Would Love To Make A Yakuza 0-Style Shenmue Prequel

Uncharted2007

@-wc- By modern, I mean PS4/5, Xbox1/S/X, and PC. All three games are incredibly affordable to buy and accessible to nearly everyone. The exception of course, being Nintendo as Shenmue was never released on Nintendo systems. I will add that I find it odd they never released them on Switch with as popular as the handheld is. If all you have is Switch, then odds are, the 4th game wouldn't be released on that platform either, but if it were, hopefully they'd have that recap video in the extras section.

Re: Yu Suzuki Would Love To Make A Yakuza 0-Style Shenmue Prequel

Uncharted2007

Turning Shenmue 4 into a recap episode is a horrendous idea. Big Shenmue fan here, but no, Suzuki... you're wrong on that one. Recap episodes are boring and easily missed. In fact, I personally skip them almost 100% of the time once I realize what I'm watching.

People have access to all the previous games on the modern ecosystems. If they want to know the story, let them play through the other games or just include the recap video in an extras menu. If you even get to make a 4th game, focus on finishing the story.

Then his plans for a prequel when we don't even have an ending yet? You're being over zealous Suzuki. Focus on the finish line.

Re: Give Your Game Gear An Audio Boost With The CleanAmp Duo

Uncharted2007

I've had a few fixes and upgrades done to my Game Gear over the years. First and foremost, the original capacitors failed and even leaked onto the boards, destroying them. System wouldn't even turn on.

Fixes and upgrades done:

  • New boards with modern capacitors
  • Upgraded back light to LED
  • New glass screen cover
  • New rubber pads (under buttons)

Works and looks like new now. I've been interested in updating the screen but at the time I was having the above done, McWill was the only option and $200 was far too much. Looks like RetroSix has a more affordable screen at $75. So maybe I'll go back to considering it.

As for this new audio enhancement, $20 is a fair price. I'm just not sure I would consider it as there's nostalgia attached to the horrible speaker sound.

Re: Best Sega CD Games Of All Time

Uncharted2007

Sadly, I haven't heard of most of these but wasn't into RPGs during the era. I have some thick nostalgia goggles for the Sega CD. While I didn't get a Sega CD until the PS2 days, I had picked up a model 2 to go with my model 2 Genesis. The combo is still one of the more sleek console designs IMO.

Games I'd have on the list that didn't make it on this one.

  • Jurassic Park - A fun click and point adventure that tried to immerse the player with ambient dino noises and first person perspective.
  • Sewer Shark - The best of the FMV games probably because they got the button interaction to work properly. Lots of humor and it was fun shooting the ratagators while cruising the sewers.
  • Corpse Killer - Basically a light gun game without a light gun. I enjoyed this one for the humor of the cut scenes. You could tell the actors were having a blast cheesing it up.

Re: Best 3DO Games Of All Time

Uncharted2007

Deadelus Encounter is the only one missing for me and only because it has Tia Carerra in it. Absolute eye candy. I don't recall the game being any fun what so ever though, so probably a good call not adding it to your list.

Re: Best NES Games Of All Time

Uncharted2007

Not a horrible list. Here are my top NES games:

  • Ninja Turtles
  • Ninja Turtles 2
  • Ninja Turtles 3
  • Ducktales
  • Double Dragon
  • Battletoads
  • Micro Machines
  • Super Dodge Ball
  • Mario 3
  • Rescue Embacy Mission

Re: Where To Pre-Order The Atari 2600+

Uncharted2007

I enjoyed the likes of Dig Dug, Joust and Pitfall, but I don't see the value in this collection. That said, the 2600 is slightly before my time as I didn't really get into gaming until the NES. Thus, I don't have the nostalgia some will have.

Re: Best Cheat Codes Of All Time

Uncharted2007

Some good memories there. I think I've done all of these at some point except Earthworm Jim. Have the Game Gear and played the Genesis versions only. Sonic 2 Super Sonic was my most used.

Re: Shocking Study Reveals 87% Of Classic Games Are "Critically Endangered"

Uncharted2007

First post nailed it.

Classic games aren't "Critically Endangered" if they've been backed up and are accessible (even if that's only via piracy). Publishers that own the rights to these classic games know there's a demand for bringing them to modern systems. Cowabunga Collection, Sonic Origins Plus, etc... all prove it. The publishers are either not willing to put up the cash to port them or are lazy.

That only leaves piracy for the most part. Who knew it would be the community... not the corporate shills... that preserved gaming? I think the writing has been on the wall for decades.

Re: Talking Point: Does Video Game History Have A "Nintendo" Problem?

Uncharted2007

I've dealt with the Nintendo bias heavily as a Sega kid in the 90's. I had both the Genesis and Game Gear and always found both to be better than the Nintendo counterparts... even decades later.

Game Gear for instance, had a bigger, back-lit, and color screen where the original Game Boy's screen... frankly... sucked. Nintendo managed to win due to coming in at a lower price and using 33% fewer batteries. They also kneecapped Sega via contractual agreements with the likes of Konami (among others), ensuring Game Gear never saw games like Ninja Turtles or Ducktales.

When I argue these points in favor of Sega, I'm immediately shouted down by the Nintendo fans who simply say the Game Gear sucked without providing any real reason.

Re: Review: Steam Deck, One Year On

Uncharted2007

I honestly completely forgot this existed. No plans on buying one as the cost is... well... a bit much for the use I"d get from it... but it's a nice looking piece of tech.

Makes me wonder what a modern successor to the Sega Game Gear would look like. Then I recall a video of a fan made 3D model that looked spectacular. Sadly, it seems that video has been removed.

Re: A Soulcalibur Collection Might Be On The Way

Uncharted2007

Eh... I was a big fan for the first and second game but if it's a remaster of just the first... I won't bother. If it's a collection... that includes all characters such as Link and I can still buy it on PS5... then I'd buy it. It's a long shot that would ever be allowed though.

I bought SC6 for $20 on PS4 and just couldn't get into it. My interest in fighting games has waned significantly over the years to the point that I'm not sure I'd be willing to buy another from any series.
