Re: "We Spent The Last Eight Months Creating A User-Friendly Frontend" - Taki Udon Shows Off SuperStation One's 'Console Mode' UI

WhiteUmbrella

@breach187 I received an email from Retro Remake just today, that was only sent to buyers of the founders and friends. To cut a long story short, shipping for first batch orders has now been delayed until the first week of November, first black, then classic grey and finally clear blue, shipped in that order.

The Superdock is behind production of SuperStation by over a month, and those that have an active preorder that includes the Superdock have the option of either splitting the order into two separate shipments, to receive the SS1 as soon as possible, or waiting for shipment until both SS1 and the Superdock are ready. The Superdock won't be ready for mass production until the end of November.
We have to let them know which option we choose, but customer services are on holiday until October 7th. I'm going to choose to wait for a single shipment of both, since I don't intend on using the SS1 without the dock, and I don't mind waiting. Overall it's good news, I feel. Those who don't mind about using physical discs won't have to wait as long. I was in the first order of priority too (black) ... oh well. At least we know something, now.

I visited the Retro Remake site just yesterday, and was surprised to see that the Superdock has now gone from being listed as a $5 pre-order to sold out. Perplexed, I checked for any emails I might have missed, including my spam folder. There were none. Perhaps this is just a mistake, and no Superdocks have actually been sold, but if they have, I'm left wondering if I should now cancel my preorder for the founder's edition, since I don't want it without the dock. Surely my $5 pre-order deposit should have been sufficient to receive an invite to complete purchase? If not, what was the point of the deposit?

Re: "It Shouldn't Be That Way" - Tetris Company CEO Laments Low Female Representation In The Games Industry

@Damo This site is meant to be about retro gaming, not political viewpoints. Gaming is something that unites people across the political spectrum. By aligning this site with one view, which aligns with your own, you are creating division and will reduce the traffic. You are actively silencing viewpoints that you don't like. Maybe you should think twice about the direction you are taking. To be clear, I'm a regular viewer of Turn Left and Novara Media and I am saying to you, personally, do not bring this here.

Re: "I Hope Elon Musk Never Googles Me, Because I'll Be Murdered", Says Deus Ex Co-Writer

@lordlad The Metal Gear Solid games have always been political, but of course there is a difference between a nuanced and deep commentary on geopolitics, both historical and modern, and singling out a single modern-day figure, who is a figure of relevance to the current U.S. administration, and clearly picking a side, which is divisive. This didn't need an article here. Perhaps you'd like to remind everyone just which Metal Gear Solid title Kojima used, to do something similar?

Re: Time Extension Reader Survey 2025

WhiteUmbrella

I was considering answering the survey, but the content of the survey doesn't match the output of the site. This seems like just a data grab, which internet users are bombarded with more than enough of already, without actively volunteering for it.

Re: Super-Rare 3DO M2 Console Worth Over $20,000 Withdrawn From Sale Following Online Abuse

The amount of virtue signalling in this comment section is just wonderful. Anyone who hoards an excessive amount of something, potentially to inflate the price, is deserving of criticism, and surely must be prepared for such, when they brag about it on the internet. This person clearly has a big enough ego already, without all this massaging going on. Cry me a river, from inside your curated echo chambers.

Re: Palmer Luckey's Nintendo 64 Clone Will Cost $199 For Early Adopters

It's not a thorny issue for me. When I go to the supermarket or just walk down the street, I don't know the personal histories of every single person that I interact with. I don't need to know. Maybe some of them did terrible things, or great things. I don't know either way, because I don't know them personally. Why would I rely on second and third-hand accounts of the activities of others, to make purchasing decisions? Who gets to decide which stories are told, and which suppressed?
People who virtue signal online, through their purported purchasing decisions, are tedious.

Re: Here's Your Best Look Yet At Taki Udon's SuperStation One FPGA PS1, And You Can Order It Now

WhiteUmbrella

I couldn't be bothered to stay up until 2am UK for the launch, but by 8am that morning, there were still founders edition units remaining, although only the black ... which was fortunate in a way, as it saved me agonising over whether I should get that or the translucent blue version. I had expected them to be all sold out by that point, but when I saw it available, I just couldn't resist. I was tempted to wait and see what Analogue will do, but maybe they will tackle Saturn next, rather than PS1. I also put down a deposit for the base unit. Also, like another commenter, have an Analogue 3D coming. I really like that all this retro hardware is coming out. It's like a dream come true.

Re: Review: Polymega - Now With N64 Support, But Is It Still Worth A Look In 2024?

WhiteUmbrella

I too received the "update your shipping address" email, and I initially felt really positive about it ... I mean ... after all this time, even Playmaji wouldn't use such a ruse to drum up more orders, would they?
Despite being really interested in the Polymega, I was wary of ordering, in light of all the problems and delays, and the lack of communication, but when 2021 rolled around and Polymega officially became a retail product, and Nintendo Life published an article, I decided to place an order. That was back in December 2021. I have yet to receive anything. Despite their latest promises, I'm clearly not going to receive even as much as an email this year. Don't go thinking you can just request a refund if your patience runs out, either. I sent two emails, one of which was sent back in April, requesting a refund. My refund request only received a response in October, when I was told that shipping was likely set to occur before years end, and that I could still request a refund if I wanted one, which I had already done ... twice. Playmaji is keeping your money, whether you get anything in return or not. All I have for the £450 I paid them over two years ago is three emails.
I would say to any potential customer, go ahead and order from Playmaji if you want, but only if you're happy to receive nothing in return for your money. That way, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Polymega's Latest Update Adds Game Boy And Virtual Boy Screen Filters

WhiteUmbrella

@Axelay71 I'm in the UK and can confirm that Polymega is available to order directly from the official website for delivery here. I only placed my order this month, it was around £400 including delivery for the base unit and controller only. According to their website, orders should ship in the first half of 2022. I'm hoping, but I wouldn't be surprised if the wait turns out to be much longer than that. Feel lucky?

Re: The Intellivision Amico Has A Unique Approach To Physical Media And Digital Ownership

WhiteUmbrella

@Damo This system using physical media is just marketing. Yes, I did read the article. All these cards appear to address is the issue of downloads being transferable, but just like any other digital library it is reliant on the servers. Once the servers are shut down, the physical media is useless. It's no better or more physical than a digital library with Sony, Microsoft or Steam, and if I had to put money on whose servers will be running longest, it wouldn't be Tommy Tallarico's.

Re: After Months Of Silence, Polymega Insists Pre-Orders Are Shipping Soon

WhiteUmbrella

The company behind this is shady. They maintain radio silence on their website, two polite enquiries I made were never answered, and the only time they have much to say is when they're criticised on social media or youtube. Blaming Walmart really wasn't a good look either. I was interested in their console as soon as I saw/heard of it, but their offering has been progressively downgraded, first the Polymega would use FGPA (it doesn't) also it was apparently going to support native streaming (it doesn't). The price is ridiculous, but worse than that it's just vaporhardware, if there is such a thing. The company are always asking for more money, but have never delivered anything, maybe outside of the lightgun or controllers. Search for a review and the only reviews you will find anywhere are with partners or those who have been supplied a review unit. As a consumer product, it has never existed.

Re: The Real Story Behind Rare's Cancelled GoldenEye 007 Remaster

WhiteUmbrella

I find it believable that Nintendo would block Goldeneye being remade for competing platforms. I've long held a suspicion about the fate of another title, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. The rights situation for that game can't be anywhere near as complicated, so why has it never seen a rerelease? I have a suspicion that Nintendo doesn't want it seeing the light of day on other consoles, so it will never be seen again anywhere. Counting against Nintendo being to blame is the similar fate of MGS4, which has also never resurfaced.
Let's just blame Nintendo and Konami equally.
