The screen you use to play retro games on is a vital part of the experience, and while old-school CRT displays are the most faithful way of reconnecting with the past, there are many video scalers and processing devices which allow you to get a similar experience on modern-day TVs.
Unico's TRAVELLER•ULW10 aims to strike a middle ground between those two options. It's a modern LCD monitor with a "retro-inspired" 4:3 aspect ratio design and a raft of legacy connections, including RGB and VGA (thanks, Retro Dodo). HDMI is included for modern systems, too.
There's a rear compartment for storing your console, and the ULW10 is light enough to move around easily. Unico isn't billing this as the best in its class, however. "ULW10 isn’t trying to be the best conventional monitor," says the company. "It’s trying to give you an experience conventional monitors don’t."
The ULW10 goes up on Kickstarter soon. Sadly, the company has resorted to some iffy GenAI 'lifestyle' imagery for promotion, but if you can look past that, you can register your interest here.
