Re: "What if Super Mario Land Came Out Much Later?" - This Short But Sweet Demo Has The Answer

@Gamecuber If you know how Game Gear was a portable Master System that's how it handled ports from the MS, they were all like this with rare times the game gear version is just the Master system inside a GG cart castle of illusion, chase HQ are examples of this where it's not changed for the GG resolution/hardware the GG runs the game in MS mode as it you were using that cartridge adapter but Sonic 1 on GG while still uses the GG resolution so the Sprites are more zoomed in then the MS version, they actually made effort by totally redesigning Sonic's sprite set to be smaller then the one used in the MS version and both versions of Sonic 2 8 bit, the camera is pushed back so Sonic doesn't need to be right at the edge of the screen to move it giving you a bit more viewing space, again later GG Sonic lose this and use the bigger MS style sprites for Sonic which looks nicer but reinforces screen crunch, Sonic 1 GG was made by the studio who made Streets of Rage the GG ports graphics are resized to work better on the handheld too tho another studio handled all the 8 Bit Sonic games starting from Sonic 2, I only ever managed to beat Sonic 1 GG and oddly Sonic Blast on GG tho latter only happen due to the extra rings it gives you, Sonic 1 GG felt more like a fair challenge Sonic 2 on GG looks nice but is indeed a real struggle to play due to no efforts to make the screen work on GG, your better off playing Sonic 2 MS on GG to fix it which is what I did back then.

@Gamecuber Sonic 1 isn't reduced at all and is the original version before it got ported to Game Gear there's a beta of Sonic 1 GG that still has the master system Sprites for Sonic and the Camera doesn't give you a lot of space the Game Gear version uses smaller Sprites for Sonic, has warning signs, camera is pushed back to give Sonic a better field of view and some other adjustments to make it work better on game gear, every other Game Gear Sonic game just uses the master system version without changing the Sprites again looks nicer but it gives you barely any room to see, leading to screen cramp and cheap difficult The underground zone boss is prime example unlike Sonic 1 on GG

@mjparker77 Sega has gotten worse lately, like charging $100 for a new cartridge of Sonic 1 and 2, but the pricing for Hamster's work is still a rip off, that's coming from someone who was buying a lot of them but the jump in price for games that are super easy to emulated, poorly aged or just really old games that would be better on a collection for niche games like they used to do years ago on PS1 and PS2, the lack of features or even versions don't help justify the price when it's so easy to play it on name with ease even on a android device when it's basically the same Hamster is doing, putting roms into emulators, still waiting for them to try adding another Namco 3D board that isn't Namco System 22 again $15 to $17 is asking a lot again when there's no online or any features or some history about the game, meanwhile there's a guy putting all the system 22 games, sega model 2 onto PC and 360 into a collection with online support for free, now why Hamster do that for $15-17 a pop?

@Thad Same I only passed the 1st level on Game Gear version of Sonic 2 through save states, there's just not enough room to react, on SMS it's not issue cus you can see more, bigger sprites do look nicer which helped sell GG Sonic 2, looks good in pictures not so much to actually play it and same for Mario Land 2 but I think they had the right idea with Mario Land 1 there's no screen crunch at all despite the sprites being more simplified.

@AnonUser ohh your missing out, for a launch DS game it's incredible, it's far from being a watered down version to the n64 version, the DS handles textures better then N64, so all the worlds are fully textured rather than looking basic and like a tech demo, same with the models plus it uses morphs so unlike the n64 version everything looks less blocky as much I love the n64 Mario's model has that early 3D look then the actual gameplay where it gets better, again the maps have been expanded with new areas or even brand levels hidden around the castle, kinda love the idea the game treats it's self as a semi sequel, cus Bowser knows Mario is coming so captures him, Luigi and Wario, starting as Yoshi makes it's a proper Mario is missing, unlocking the characters and beating the new bosses in the levels you get their keys is really good and the models look really good for a launch DS, the only edge n64 has now is the analog control and cursed videos due to how ugly the n64 version looks now, kids think it's "scary" lol tho patches have already fixed it for 3DS analog pad, it's really worth trying out, plus if fans can finish the original idea behind Super Mario 64 DS, the reason why it has 4 playable characters was originally 4 people could play the story mode in co-op hench the original name Super Mario 64x4 tho sadly the DS hardware wasn't powerful enough to realise this idea outside a cool 4 player VS mode again that with online would be awesome, Super Mario 64 DS is far from a "water down" port it's from a era Nintendo really put effort into making a remake feel new and different, nowadays you get Galaxy 1&2 with no changes other to make it work on a Switch, no new graphics, no new levels, no muitplayer or extra playable characters just some fluff in the story book to make the new movie canon lol

@Atariboy I ended up getting TX-1 but can see a new problem now why isn't the single screen option included or a way to zoom in, Mame has both ways to play it for over a decade now https://youtu.be/coGCxiD8esU?si=x8djyqafd_lltgA4 and like the ace driver release the steering isn't set up properly for a control, gonna have to fiddle with the settings just to make it playable Switch, I can't see how this is better then make outside being on console.

@mjparker77 It's really not that hard dude, wouldn't call them ports but overpriced packaged emulators, it's not like the M2 releases like Sega Ages Arcade releases that were actually re programmed ports which is why they can add modern updates like new content, wide screen, boost to 60fps like with Outrun originally aside from the Saturn port, the arcade version was only 30fps there less than couple of quid atm, 6 quid normally, that's far reasonable then Hamster's pricing.

Re: Random: "That Would Be Wonderful" - Count Binface Wants To Reboot London's SegaWorld

As nice it would be to have 90's Sega back there's no way a modern Sega World would work, they lack the games that made it great in the first place, not even gonna start on Sonic becoming great again, a lot of Sega's own arcades are struggling in Japan even closing down despite Arcades still being a thing over there, it would take more then a politician "promise" to bring back Sega back to it's prime, unless he's got a time machine there's no way.

@AnonUser It really is, tho I think Mario 64 DS is even better the new levels, unlockable Luigi, Wario, extra stuff added to existing levels and thankfully that's being ported to pc soon, would love to see Nintendo try and remake Mario 64 themselves again seeing how we got Zelda and Star Fox 64 remakes, there's just something so grand about Mario 64 later games kinda lack, odyssey was close tho.
