If you don't have a head for heights, you might wanna look away for a moment, as classic gaming purveyor Hamster has announced that the Famicom port of Crazy Climber is the newest addition to its Console Archive range.
Released for the Famicom in 1986, following a successful coin-op run for the 1980 original, Nichibutsu's Crazy Climber is a simple, vertically-scrolling platformer that pushes player coordination to its limit. Gameplay sees a man attempting to scale the outside of a series of skyscrapers, avoiding falling objects, birds, and murderous residents. Our hero has seemingly no purpose for their ascension, nor the need for a safety net or lifeline. The game is not called "Sane Climber."
Crazy Climber featured a dual-stick layout in its arcade iteration, requiring players to coordinate movement between their left and right hands to control the climber. Some home versions were packaged with "clip-on" sticks, attached to two Famicom D-pads to replicate the arcade's twin-stick experience.
The Famicom edition of Crazy Climber also boasts new features, including expanded levels and side-on platforming stages, making it one of the best iterations of the sky-high classic.
Crazy Climber is now available on PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
