It's time to grab your clubs (the virtual kind anyway), as SNK's Fighting Golf has just been announced for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, as part of Arcade Archives 1 & 2.

Known as Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf outside of Japan, Fighting Golf hit arcades back in 1988, a couple of years prior to the release of SNK's Neo Geo arcade system, and allows players to choose one of four characters to play as, each with their own special stats.

There's no "fighting" as the title suggests, so don't expect anyone to get a 3-wood wrapped around their face. Just good, clean golfing "fun," with Hamster, the creators of Arcade Archives, promising "18 varied holes filled with three types of rough, two types of bunkers, oceans, rivers, and dense trees."

In the North American version, your choice of golfers included Super Mex/Lee Trevino (an all-around player), Miracle Chosuke (a putting expert), Pretty Amy (a steady player), and the brilliantly named Big Jumbo (a long hitter), with a couple of these names being slightly different in the Japanese release.

In addition to the arcade cabinet, a version was also released for the Nintendo Famicom/NES, sporting Lee Trevino on the cover in the States. This is believed to have inspired Lee Carvalho's Putting Challenge, a fictional golf game featured in The Simpsons Season 7 episode "Marge Be Not Proud," whose popularity has largely eclipsed the game it was based on over the last few decades, spawning a Unity fan recreation in 2020 and a fanmade sequel a couple of years ago for Game Boy.

Enough about Lee Carvalho, though; this article is meant to be about Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf. If you want to check out the SNK arcade game, it launches tomorrow (Thursday, 8th October), and will cost $7.99 on Nintendo Switch and PS4, and $9.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
