Taito's 1987 arcade sequel, Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh, is getting a standalone release on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S later this week, courtesy of the Arcade Archives' creator, Hamster.

So if you don't already own the Egret II Mini version of the game (included with the paddle and trackball controller) or simply want to pick it up again on your modern platform of choice, now seems like as good a time as any to get stuck into the block-breaking sequel.

As you may recall, Hamster released the original 1986 title on Arcade Archives 1 & 2 back in May of this year, so this release won't necessarily be a surprise to many. Nevertheless, it's great to see the classic title being released on more platforms, with a lot of the typical Arcade Archives bonuses thrown in (ranging from additional modes to screen filters and online leaderboards).

Debuting in the arcades one year after the original, Revenge of Doh features the same classic core gameplay of its predecessor, but expands on it in several ways, introducing branching pathways at the end of levels to decide the next stage's layout, as well as mini-bosses, new power-ups, and additional brick types.

Shortly after its release, it became a huge hit for the Japanese developer and was later ported to the Nintendo Famicom and various home computers. This included Ocean Software-published ports (released under the Imagine Software label) for the Atari ST, the Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, and the Commodore 64.

Here's the official description from Hamster:

"ARKANOID REVENGE OF DOH" is a brick breaker released by TAITO in 1987.

The sequel to ARKANOID is back and more powered up than ever! While retaining the core gameplay of bouncing the Energy Ball to shatter Space Walls, it introduces brand-new systems, including branching paths into L and R versions, and an increased variety of items.

Only you can stop the dimension-controlling force DOH, which has crossed dimensions to invade our universe!"

The Arcade Archives version for Nintendo Switch and PS4 costs $7.99. The Arcade Archives 2 edition for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, on the other hand, costs $9.99.

Besides Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh, Hamster has also revealed that an Arcade Archives 2 version of SEIBU KAIHATSU's action game Wiz is also on the way tomorrow for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox for Windows, priced at $9.99. More details on that can be found here.
