It's fair to say that the initial reveal of System 3's The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough didn't go down quite as well as was perhaps expected.
The initial confirmation was accompanied by some blatantly GenAI artwork, and the trailer which followed afterwards was even worse – it not only used the AI art, but set the imagery to a tune which also had the stink of Generative AI.
Much of the anger from fans was directed towards System 3 – indeed, even original James Pond creator Chris Sorrell expressed his displeasure at how the publisher was treating his baby.
However, Time Extension has since learned from more than one source that System 3 isn't involved in the development of the collection, or in the creation of the assets which had engendered such a vitriolic reaction.
Instead, it has contracted the work out to Antstream, the company behind the popular retro gaming streaming subscription service. We've reached out to the company, and a representative has confirmed its involvement.
Antstream seems to be branching out aggressively into this market, as it is also responsible for the forthcoming Alien Breed: 35th Anniversary collection, which Commodore is publishing.
