Ever Fancied Playing Ridge Racer In Portrait Mode? This Flip Phone Port Has You Covered 1

We've been eating well as far as Ridge Racer on modern-day systems is concerned, with the arcade original and its coin-op-only sequel, Rave Racer, both becoming available fairly recently.

Lucky Switch and Steam users are getting another Ridge Racer game, but don't go expecting an arcade-perfect experience here.

The game in question is a port of the G-MODE flip phone game released in Japan a while back, and, although it's 3D, the game is displayed in a portrait aspect ratio, as befitting the original phone hardware.

Despite being a pre-smartphone release, G-MODE Archives+ Ridge Racer showcases three difficulty modes, a time trial option, four vehicles to choose from and a (reasonably) faithful reproduction of the coin-op version's iconic drift-based gameplay.

The Steam version will have a worldwide release on September 16th, while the Switch edition launches on the 3rd and will only be available on the Japanese eShop, it seems. It will cost 800 yen.
