@Damo Actually, I was told it was available since May but I had no idea (or maybe I had forgotten). In my defense, I couldn't find it even after looking for it, since it's not available in game (the controls menu only show the default controls). It's still in beta though, which might explain why it's in the "..." menu.
Anyway, I don't really feel the EXP adds much more to the Super Pocket considering its price: few games benefit from TATE mode and I never play connected to a TV. So I suspect I'm gonna play way more with the Super Pocket in the future.
The journalist also claims that Gunpei Yokoi invented arcade cabinets in the video. It's not just the Odyssey... I'm wondering if he used ChatGPT thinking it would be knowledgeable about video games, or if he got pranked by a trainee or something.
The reason why this happened with the Wii U is probably because it was a commercial failure and many consoles have already been stored unused for years. But it might happen in the future for every system using NAND Flash, such as the Switch but also the Steam Deck, the PS5, and the Xbox Series. And PCs.
@Banks I already mentioned Streets of Rage 2, Double Dragon Advance, Die Hard Arcade, The Ninja Warriors Again, and Warriors of Fate. In general, I tend to prefer beat 'em ups that offer a lot of moves; it annoys me when people claim they're intrinsically repetitive. Good beat 'em ups are not repetitive. But Final Fight and King of the Dragons are not good beat 'em ups imho. They're pretty, sure, but they're very shallow.
@Damo Obviously, and that's why I didn't use the word 'trash' and specified 'imho'. Honestly I wouldn't have risked publishing any subjective list, even though I'm well aware it makes people talk. Or I would have presented it differently, like offering people to discover little known beat 'em ups for instance.
Very disappointing list imho, since ALL my favorite games are missing: Streets of Rage 2, Double Dragon Advance, Die Hard Arcade, The Ninja Warriors Again, etc. And some games on the list are very shallow, including the overrated The King of Dragons in which each character has a grand total of 3 attacks. -_- Knights of the Round is better for starters, and Warriors of Fate is also better than Armored Warriors for me, even though it's decent at least.
I own a copy of Cotton but ironically, I never liked it. Not cute enough and far too hard for me. Also I didn't know Faselei had been released in Europe; if I knew, I wouldn't have got the Japanese version, which is not very easy to play.
I'm surprised to see that many shmups, and I actually don't like these very much, even though I'm not a fan of the genre. Also I hate Magician Lord, and I'm puzzled so many people like it. It's almost impossible to beat because of a weird design choice.
I wanted Last Battle as a kid so I asked my friends to offer it to me for my birthday. But the friend in charge of the gift wanted it for himself, so he pretended he didn't find it and offered me his copy of El Viento instead. And later I pretended he had borrowed Last Battle from a mysterious friend. Well, joke's on him I guess.
I'm very familiar with the movie and the fact it was shot twice but didn't know about the poison. Very interesting although loosely related to video games to be honest.
I thought you were going to mention Ikari Warriors, which was supposed to be a Rambo game initially. After all, Secret Command is a complete ripoff of it (but one of my favorite Master System games, mind you).
@GayusGayer The GB audio chip is actually pretty close to the SID and that's why it's one of the most used hardware in chiptune. So it's really not "one small step up from that of a doorbell" as Damien claims. -_-

Re: Review: Hyper Mega Tech Super Pocket - A Wonderful Game Boy-Style Retro Gift
I own an EXP and it doesn't have button remapping yet (but I'm launching a firmware update as I type this).
Re: Taito's 1989 Shoot 'Em Up Darius II Is This Week's Arcade Archives Release
@JayJ No idea, but it happened before with Metro-Cross for instance.
Re: Taito's 1989 Shoot 'Em Up Darius II Is This Week's Arcade Archives Release
Last week's game didn't release in the West apparently.
Re: The Camp '90s Horror That Links The Late Julian Sands With Resident Evil
Very interesting. And I'm glad an English native speaker loves Coppola's Dracula, one of my favorite movies.
Re: DSReality Aims To Display Your Favourite DS Games As Holographic 3D Models
Maybe one day people will realize displaying 3D models in 3D was a good idea. T_T

Re: Wii U And 3DS eShop Closure Is Removing Access To The Wider Goemon Series
@gaga64 Yeah, I suspect they meant Japan-only games; a lot of episodes in the series never came to the West.
Re: Not Used Your Wii U In A While? It Might Be Dead
@JayJ I'm not sure the OS has any effect here; NAND Flash cells tend to lose their charge with time when they're not powered.

Re: Ex-Konami Artist Says Developer Wanted To Make A Batman Game For Arcades
Sunsoft did a good job anyway.
Re: Interview: Konami Legends Reveal The Secrets Of The Arcade Hit Factory
I would advise to read John Szczepaniak's interview of Kukino, he gives a lot more details about Batman, that ended up becoming Surprise Attack.

Re: Hands On: Golden Axe Returns Is So Good, Sega Itself Probably Couldn't Do Any Better
I know it's hard work but I don't like the graphics though.

Re: Pac-Man World: Repac Finally Receives Update To Credit Original Developers
Excellent news indeed, especially given that Tommy Tallarico is not credited.

Re: CIBSunday: Batman: The Video Game (Mega Drive)
I have it, but without the manual though. At least it was not expensive.
Re: Guide: Best Golden Axe Games - Every Golden Axe Game Ranked
The Master System port was one of my favorite games at the time. It's a far cry from the original game, indeed, but it's quite nice.
Re: Intellivision Closes Amico Fundraising Ahead Of Schedule
OOF!
Well, now Amico is just the friends we made along the way, I guess.

I mean it's precisely the theme from the C64 version for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGIKnn-COS4
