Agreed, there is definitely false/misleading/overpriced products in the audiophile world, and a lot of them at that. There's also some products that seem like they shouldn't work, but do change the experience. Those products are humbling as they force one to re-evaluate their knowledge of hearing, and the established science with it. That also puts them at odds with most of the rest of the world who would look at the product and assume it's for suckers. As usual the reality is nuanced, and a broad label doesn't really work to define the community. That's probably true for every community though.
I've got the original M Classic and it makes a very small difference for the Switch and the Polymega. The difference is there, a slight sharpening, but so barely noticeable that it's not worth it.
Jumping into the Audiophile discussion. The older I get the more I realize that I understand very little about other peoples experiences (or the world in general really). It's an easy trap to think that others are wrong, that they are buying snake oil and getting suckered in due to their lack of knowledge. If you haven't attempted that same experience, your opinion might be coming solely from assumptions which can be flawed. Best to keep an open mind that there may be something there that you don't completely understand rather than just talking poorly about others.
I don't think I've ever seen someone say they DON'T like the Dreamcast. Sure, there will be some people out there of course, but it seems to be well liked by most of the gaming population. That's saying something where most seem to have a strong opinion on each console.
The Dreamcast & Snes are my favorite consoles for sure. There's a special feel to the DC that has never been replicated by any other console.
The Polymega has nailed a modern console like experience for retro, but there are a lot of barriers to entry (cost, must have a physical collection, low availability). This is an interesting project I'd like to see more of. More retro consoles focusing on UI/experience is great.
I've got the Saturn and PCE games. Great games, but difficult (for me at least). Worth playing just for the bizarre factor alone, but they are also solid mechanically.
The first on the Dreamcast is my favorite fighting game of all time. I'm guessing I would like the 2nd even more, but I have avoided playing it due to the lack of English. The DC has the best controller for 2D fighting, so I'd love to see this translation happen.
So Atari now owns Intellivision and a 49% stake in Polymega. Hopefully that means something for future Polymega development. If Polymega can launch an online retro game store then that could be a game changer, and this intellivision purchase could help bolster the number of launch games on that store.
The U.S retro market is messed up. Take Panzer Dragoon Saga for example, which is averaging at $555 just for the discs. Then you've got the NTSJ version which can be had for less than $30. That's not an isolated case. Most $100+ English games can be had for cheap in their NTSJ forms, which is definitely going to cause a market for NTSJ games to rise in price and still sell as a bargain compared to the English versions. This will lead to resellers profiting, and it has nothing to do with foreigners or tourists. Unfortunately game prices will rise and that's just how it's going to be until demand goes down.
lol no. Mario, Pac-man, Pikachu, Sonic, Donkey Kong, and then the rest of the top 10 will be Mario related characters. The polling population is definitely skewing things here.
I remember being so tired of 2D games prior to the launch of the PS1 and Saturn. It felt like everything had already been done in 2D. Even the worst 3D games at that point felt new and exciting with the 32 bit consoles. Hard to imagine those in the industry didn't feel the same way.
Polymega is the coolest console I've ever tried. I hope they end up being financially successful from all the work they have done. They have put countless hours into the design of the system and it shows.
He could lose all of that money. The Ebay auction is a binding contract to purchase for that price. The Ebay buyer can now sue the seller to enforce that contract. Since the item sold for more to a different party, the Ebay buyer can sue for those damages as they should have been the one to own & sell that item. In the end the original seller may end up with nothing, or even owing for additional damages.
Makes me want to go back through it again on the Xbox series X. Had a blast playing this back on the 360, and even went through it a second time on hard mode. Hopefully they will make a sequel someday.
There's always a lot of talk about how the Polymega isn't FPGA, but that's not the point of the console. The point is to be able to play your game collection with ease. No tinkering with settings, no trying to find questionable roms, no using a computer and multiple programs to try and set things up. It's your collection, quickly accessed just as if you were turning on a switch or xbox to play some digital games.
Yes, the team needs to focus on core hardware distribution. This is good forward facing PR, but the console is still unavailable to purchase without having to hope that it eventually gets to you.
@syrupdash , once loaded onto the Polymega you wouldn't need the media any more. The main selling point of the Poly is to create an on demand library consisting of your games. I've said this before, but I really want to buy this console. The only things stopping me at this point is that I refuse to purchase until the console is in stock, ready to ship.
Been looking forward to this console for a long time, and I still am. However ordering through Walmart guaranteed that you wouldn't be charged until the product shipped. Ordering direct means an immediate charge, and you lose your credit card dispute protections before the product even has a chance to ship. This is now too risky. I'll wait until units actually start to ship out before putting money into this thing...
I'm guessing I don't fully understand the logistics, but if the main issue is getting customer info & fulfilling orders through a vendor, wouldn't the release date be "as soon as we get this resolved" instead of 3 months out? Sounds like they are using a flimsy excuse rather than being up front with their customers that they need more time (yet again).
I'd love to see 3DO support as well. I never had the console as a kid, but playing it now is still something quite special. It's basically a snapshot in time of early 90's PC games, represented perfectly.
It's a niche market for sure, but I for one am looking forward to this. There is value in having your entire Saturn library loaded into a single HDMI box, with art and other useful info in an easy to use GUI. It's expandable, and does take away some of the minor irks of trying to run a game on the original hardware. Typically as you get older you have less time to play each day. Having to deal with the minor annoyances of set up can make you decide not to play a retro game, and instead just go back to a current consoles since it's much faster to jump in and play for a few minutes. This unit makes retro games easy to pull up and load, eliminating that barrier. Sure there are other emulation sources that allow you to quickly jump into a game, but they all require a lot of setup up front which, if you are interested in this unit, is the exact barrier you are looking to avoid.
All that, plus once this is hacked it's going to be ridiculous...
Those full round D pads are never good. This console will be in the clearance bins within a few months due to lack of alluring content and the cheapness of the design. Still though, if this system can be modded it may be fun for a niche market.

Re: Polymega's New System Update Adds Support For "Future Hardware"
My hope is GB/GBC/GBA as new hardware, and 3DO support as well. Still though, I'm immediately buying any hardware they make.
Re: Two Classic Data East Arcade Games Are Joining The Polymega Collection
I too wish they would focus on hardware, specifically the base units, remix, and new modules. Still though, easily my favorite console of all time.
Re: 8BitDo Has Announced The Successor To Its Ultimate Wireless Controller
That low latency claim has me intrigued. I'm in to try it. Crossing my fingers that it works with the Polymega

Re: Best Of 2024: The Making Of FIFA Road To World Cup 98, The "Greatest FIFA Of All Time"
Fifa 2001 was really good as well, but I agree it's still second to 98. I haven't been able to get into a FIFA since 2001.
Re: Polymega System Update 1.1.32 Now Available, And Boy Does It Do A Lot Of Stuff
I love this system. It's my favorite console of all time, issues and all. I hope it continues to improve, and eventually gains traction.
Re: Looks Like Polymega's Light Gun Is Shipping Soon
Love love love my Polymega. It has more than a few odd quirks, but the UI and ease of use makes it incredible to me.
Re: You'll Be Able To Secure Your SuperSega FPGA Console For Just Three Bucks
300-350 is too low for R&D and manufacturing, so this pre-order stinks of being a cash grab for vaporware.
