Re: "The Most Bafflingly Poor Products We Have Ever Reviewed" - Marseille's mClassic RGB Collection Fails To Impress The Experts

Dramlin

Agreed, there is definitely false/misleading/overpriced products in the audiophile world, and a lot of them at that. There's also some products that seem like they shouldn't work, but do change the experience. Those products are humbling as they force one to re-evaluate their knowledge of hearing, and the established science with it. That also puts them at odds with most of the rest of the world who would look at the product and assume it's for suckers. As usual the reality is nuanced, and a broad label doesn't really work to define the community. That's probably true for every community though.

Re: "The Most Bafflingly Poor Products We Have Ever Reviewed" - Marseille's mClassic RGB Collection Fails To Impress The Experts

I've got the original M Classic and it makes a very small difference for the Switch and the Polymega. The difference is there, a slight sharpening, but so barely noticeable that it's not worth it.

Jumping into the Audiophile discussion. The older I get the more I realize that I understand very little about other peoples experiences (or the world in general really). It's an easy trap to think that others are wrong, that they are buying snake oil and getting suckered in due to their lack of knowledge. If you haven't attempted that same experience, your opinion might be coming solely from assumptions which can be flawed. Best to keep an open mind that there may be something there that you don't completely understand rather than just talking poorly about others.

Re: Anniversary: It's Been 25 Years Since The Dreamcast's North American "9.9.99" Launch

Dramlin

I don't think I've ever seen someone say they DON'T like the Dreamcast. Sure, there will be some people out there of course, but it seems to be well liked by most of the gaming population. That's saying something where most seem to have a strong opinion on each console.

The Dreamcast & Snes are my favorite consoles for sure. There's a special feel to the DC that has never been replicated by any other console.

Re: "The Tourists Have Taken Everything" Laments Japanese Resident As Retro Runs Dry

Dramlin

The U.S retro market is messed up. Take Panzer Dragoon Saga for example, which is averaging at $555 just for the discs. Then you've got the NTSJ version which can be had for less than $30. That's not an isolated case. Most $100+ English games can be had for cheap in their NTSJ forms, which is definitely going to cause a market for NTSJ games to rise in price and still sell as a bargain compared to the English versions. This will lead to resellers profiting, and it has nothing to do with foreigners or tourists. Unfortunately game prices will rise and that's just how it's going to be until demand goes down.

Re: Even Yu Suzuki Didn't Expect 3D To Become So Big, So Quickly

Dramlin

I remember being so tired of 2D games prior to the launch of the PS1 and Saturn. It felt like everything had already been done in 2D. Even the worst 3D games at that point felt new and exciting with the 32 bit consoles. Hard to imagine those in the industry didn't feel the same way.

Re: "Holy Grail" NES Zelda Worth $700,000 Was Almost Sold For $17,000

Dramlin

He could lose all of that money. The Ebay auction is a binding contract to purchase for that price. The Ebay buyer can now sue the seller to enforce that contract. Since the item sold for more to a different party, the Ebay buyer can sue for those damages as they should have been the one to own & sell that item. In the end the original seller may end up with nothing, or even owing for additional damages.

Re: All Outstanding Polymega Pre-Orders Will Ship This Year, Says Playmaji

Dramlin

There's always a lot of talk about how the Polymega isn't FPGA, but that's not the point of the console. The point is to be able to play your game collection with ease. No tinkering with settings, no trying to find questionable roms, no using a computer and multiple programs to try and set things up. It's your collection, quickly accessed just as if you were turning on a switch or xbox to play some digital games.

Re: Dreamcast Support Could Come To Polymega In The Future

Dramlin

@syrupdash , once loaded onto the Polymega you wouldn't need the media any more. The main selling point of the Poly is to create an on demand library consisting of your games. I've said this before, but I really want to buy this console. The only things stopping me at this point is that I refuse to purchase until the console is in stock, ready to ship.

Re: Pre-Ordered A Polymega With Walmart? We've Got Bad News For You

Dramlin

Been looking forward to this console for a long time, and I still am. However ordering through Walmart guaranteed that you wouldn't be charged until the product shipped. Ordering direct means an immediate charge, and you lose your credit card dispute protections before the product even has a chance to ship. This is now too risky. I'll wait until units actually start to ship out before putting money into this thing...

Re: Polymega's Launch Is Delayed Until Early Next Year

Dramlin

I'm guessing I don't fully understand the logistics, but if the main issue is getting customer info & fulfilling orders through a vendor, wouldn't the release date be "as soon as we get this resolved" instead of 3 months out? Sounds like they are using a flimsy excuse rather than being up front with their customers that they need more time (yet again).

Re: Hardware Review: Believe The Hype, Polymega Is The Ultimate All-In-One Retro Machine

Dramlin

It's a niche market for sure, but I for one am looking forward to this. There is value in having your entire Saturn library loaded into a single HDMI box, with art and other useful info in an easy to use GUI. It's expandable, and does take away some of the minor irks of trying to run a game on the original hardware. Typically as you get older you have less time to play each day. Having to deal with the minor annoyances of set up can make you decide not to play a retro game, and instead just go back to a current consoles since it's much faster to jump in and play for a few minutes. This unit makes retro games easy to pull up and load, eliminating that barrier. Sure there are other emulation sources that allow you to quickly jump into a game, but they all require a lot of setup up front which, if you are interested in this unit, is the exact barrier you are looking to avoid.

All that, plus once this is hacked it's going to be ridiculous...
