It's a bit thicker than expected, but worth it for such a sleek interface! I still have my old Tiger Dex in the drawer, it was such a cool thing to have as a kid despite it not really doing anything that cool ๐
Sounds like an interesting workaround, definitely worth a shot before cracking open my PSP-3001 and swapping some components (including a potential IPS screen).
I have these on PS3, PS5, and GOG now, so I won't be quadruple-dipping for the Steam DRM versions. Truly baffling why Capcom bothers doing that in the first place ๐
Unfortunately I do happen to be an owner of an existing variant (black), and I really hope they offer the buttons as standalone, I would gladly swap them in myself ๐ I was tempted to try swapping in buttons from the real thing, but someone on YouTube already tested this and confirmed they are sized differently...
Their business will be "officially retro" at the rate they're closing stores ๐ Jokes aside this isn't really news, when I got "retro" games at EB Games/GameStop as a kid, those cartridges were as old as the PS3/360 generation is now (the Wii U is a little younger, sure, but still defunct). You can't refuse the passage of time ๐
@RupeeClock Good to know! I'm keeping an eye on models like these for sure, but I'm also keeping my New 3DS XL alive for as long as possible, because while Citra is great, it isn't perfect.
I'm glad we're seeing renewed interest in clamshell handhelds, but the GBA SP did not need to be any smaller, so this would make an uncomfortable handheld even moreso for me ๐ฎโ๐จ
@drypaphmrbro Not by default, but considering accessing this content requires some homebrew, an even easier homebrew (whitelist hack) allows any Vita game to run on PSTV, so it is possible! Though my copy of splitz on PSTV crashed constantly, but that was likely an issue with my specific console.
I'll never fully understand the mentality of obsessing over metacritic ratings for games or rotten tomatoes for films. Sure, you want to get an idea of how objectively good something is before spending time/money engaging with it, but these ratings systems are so easily manipulated that you'll never get the full story. I suppose the silver lining here is more people can come to realize this after seeing Cory in the House DS top these ever-so-important charts.
My first AC game was on GameCube, when my best friend in the 7th grade just had a random CD holder tucked away on the edge of a shelf with a copy of Animal Crossing and the PS1 FFVIII discs. I asked if I could borrow AC, he said I could just have it, and I got hooked pretty quick! I'd still argue it has a unique charm the newer entries haven't quite recaptured in the same way, despite the countless QOL changes.
@Razieluigi The 360 back compat is honestly pretty decent if you specifically have the standalone JSRF disc. That racing game dual-pack disc has the most issues. But that standalone disc is very expensive these days so...this would be a very nice decomp to have ๐
@smoreon With the footnote that Ape Escape 2 is not optimized well for PS5 and has a lot of issues sadly (and on a personal level, I'm less of a fan of the PAL dub, which is what the PS4/5 got in the states for some reason...probably licensing).
The triggers mirroring the current Xbox controllers is a huge negative for me, as is a clicky d-pad. Changing the round silver middle button to a bland white oval is also unfortunate. Luckily replacement analogue sticks for original 360 controllers are cheap, so I'm sticking to keeping my original remotes alive with those, and using the Hyperkin Xenon for PC.
Strongly considering this one! I'm one of the few that actually like Tank! Tank! Tank! (Wii U) despite its issues. I wonder how well my Mario Kart steering wheel/pedals will work with this ๐คฉ
I'm excited to give this a shot, even if it is mediocre! Growing up as a Bebop fan, I really wanted to import a copy back in the day, but didn't have the know-how to play imports at the time.
@Guru_Larry I'm pretty sure there's localized box art for a US version online, sadly it was cancelled.
A kitbash indeed. I've always been of the mind that instead of listing your gaming inspirations outright, let your work speak for itself and have the fans make those connections instead. Nonetheless, I dig the visual style.
@HammerGalladeBro Both! It's a fan translation that emulates the GC localization as close as possible while also making little adjustments when necessary (as the text field for Japanese characters doesn't always allow the localized text to fit 1-to-1). The fan that made it really took their time with it, a true passion project.
@HammerGalladeBro You definitely got all of the examples I can think of off the cuff! I suppose with these handhelds using DS emulation, there might be a built-in sleep mode button toggle or menu function that could work in a similar fashion, but that's up to the emulation tools for sure.
Yeah, no stylus integration and smaller screens make this a hard pass. I'll stick to my actual DS/3DS hardware. @BulkSlash Technically the system is just going into Sleep Mode for those functions, which is how the standard 2DS got around that limitation. I wouldn't expect this thing to have a sleep mode switch though...
Bubble Man! Still my favorite robot master bgm (next to Skull Man), and his design is solid. Trying to resist the urge to add more clutter to my shelf ๐ซ

How was playing this to on Wii U? I'd consider giving it a go on the big screen if it's worth the $10-or so download.
