nah a monochrome handheld with sega games would have flopped too just like the game gear. i owned both the gameboy and the gamegear, then the gameboy pocket and gameboy colour so can honestly say that despite the gamegear having a great backlit colour display, it just wasnt the gameboy. there was something special about the gameboy. sega have forever tried to do the full bells and whistles with their hardware, leaning towards the flashy cool more appealing features and each time they failed. the gamegears' problem wasn't battery usage because like me, most people would of had the power adapter and battery pack. the main issue with the game gear was nintendo. since the gameboy, every nintendo handheld upto the switch 2 has just been a behemoth in success. no matter what any company throws at the nintendo handheld brand, it wont ever stand up. nintendo are just too good at this sector of the games industry to be beaten, they suck at home consoles since the nes/snes but have now managed to reign that in with the hybrid switch 1 and 2 systems, merging both handheld and home console together which actually does work without being a sales gimmick. the gameboy dominence tho for the time was on another level and they sold so many gameboys on less nintendo flagship games then they ever have, there was no pokemon until nearly a decade later and only 3 mario land games with an assortment of mario sports titles but that was it. the gameboy was so sought after that literally every company, entertainment, movie and cartoon franchise wanted a piece of the gameboy sales action. this led to an overwhelming amount of games being released on the gameboy including games from the big well known companies like capcom etc. any rival system just could not compete with this level of content. the gameboy had every single game you could imagine except for sega games whilst the gamegear had no games except for sega games, thats a huge sales problem
its about time. come on lets give duke nukem the brilliance he deserves be it a game or tv series/animation. its a total missed oppurtunity of a character. poor games, poor ideas, poor humour, poor everything. clearly hes based on arnie so arnie would have been a great choice to play him in a movie 30 years ago. such a shame. hes just stagnated and nobodys really known what to do with him except cheesy smut. he needs to have abit of ultra gore, violence, abit more aimed at adults instead of teenagers. no sleeze, just good old fashioned adult entertainment
