Oh, also Trump is a criminal, bee tee dubs. As in, literally a convicted felon. Got a trial and everything. Unlike all the people ICE is rounding up on suspicion of being brown in public, or executing for being an accessory to being brown in public.
@vicmackey You just made a bunch of vague references to events like people are supposed to know what you're talking about, and ended your post by seemingly conceding that most people don't. ("If more people become aware of what happened at Rotherham" implies that not many people do, doesn't it?)
It seems like you're aware that most people reading your post aren't going to have any idea what you're talking about, and yet you choose not to explain. You seem to think this story (or multiple stories? I can't even tell) is important to tell, or at any rate you're expressing outrage that this retro gaming site isn't telling it, but you don't seem to think it's important enough to actually say anything concrete or specific about it yourself.
@Moroboshi876 Hm. Well, since the article says they're Bluetooth, I would expect the dongle to be able to pair to other Bluetooth devices, but can't say for sure; guess someone will have to test it out.
Of course, just because a controller pairs with the dongle doesn't necessarily means it'll work on the VS/R. I've tried a number of different controllers with my VS-R and had pretty spotty results, even with wired ones. There's a crowd-sourced compatibility page at https://evercade.info/vs-controller-compatibility-db/ but I don't think it's up-to-date; more recent firmwares might have better controller support.
@sdelfin As you may have guessed, I liked Thundercats Roar.
I wasn't expecting to! I hate the character designs, and of course I was still bummed about the 2011 series being canceled.
But I gave it a chance and what won me over was the attention to detail. Yes, they were goofing on the original, but the goofs were so specific that they only could have come from creators who genuinely loved it. If you'd asked me what I wanted to see in a new Thundercats series, it wouldn't have looked anything like that, but I realized it was made by people who loved Thundercats as much as I do and that enthusiasm shone through and I was able to appreciate the show on its own merits instead of comparing it to some other show that got canceled (which wasn't the fault of the Thundercats Roar team!).
And I saw that same kind of attention to detail in this trailer. Stomping potions out of the little guy, walking right off a cliff and dying. I think it looks like a lot of fun.
But I'm with you on the designs. At least they're better than Thundercats Roar.
@pocketmoon Same as anything else, really: when something is successful, a bunch of people imitate it. Especially if it's cheap.
In the '90s there were a million cartoons that looked like Ren and Stimpy. Now kids' cartoons mostly look like Adventure Time and adult cartoons mostly look like Family Guy. (Which, itself, looks more than a little bit like The Simpsons.)
It depends, of course. To pick another video game adaptation, the Castlevania series looks gorgeous. But it's also, tonally, a very different kind of show; it's got humor but it's not comedy. This is a comedy, so they went with those goofy-looking designs.
Lower Decks was a genuinely great show. It was funny and it was just plain good Star Trek. But the character designs were the same ol' Family Guy imitations you see everywhere else.
That's about what I expect from this: no, the animation doesn't look great, but McMahan's a very talented writer who's got a gift for satirizing the source material while simultaneously showing how much he loves and understands it. YMMV; clearly @retrogamer1 didn't like the trailer, but personally I laughed out loud several times. It wasn't on my radar at all but now I'm looking forward to it.
@xzacutor I'm...pretty sure the "Nexus" upgrade for VS is just the Evercade Wireless Controller. AFAIK the Nexus doesn't have any performance improvements, just the bigger battery, screen, and built-in analog sticks.
At least we've reached a point where people credit Ub Iwerks as co-creator, which is a step up from how Disney treated him during his lifetime.
Unfortunately a lot of great Disney creators didn't get their due for a long time. The Mickey Mouse comic strip by Floyd Gottfredson and the Donald Duck (and related) comics by Carl Barks were credited to Walt Disney. Fortunately those creators are properly credited now, but it took a very long time for that to happen.
@Ruka I mean, lots of games are riffs on other games. Literally every Metroidvania, Roguelike, and Soulslike is compared to other games just by virtue of how people chose to name those genres. We used to call FPS's "Doom clones".
Maybe the game's good and maybe it's not. But being influenced by other games doesn't mean it's bad. I played a demo recently that was an extensive homage to Zelda 2 and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
@Deway Certainly that's the intent when people use "Luddite" as an insult, but it just goes to show they're making a historical reference that they don't understand. Or, worse, they do understand it and think the abusive bosses and violent cops were the good guys.
Anyone who calls people "Luddites" and means it as a negative is either ignorant or a bootlicker. Often both.
@BlabberBun "Alcohol and drugs are problems too. Many people are literally dependent on them even though they clearly didn't always need them. Instead of banning those we generally try to put in place proper guardrails/legislation. Because that's what we do."
Are you outside the US, perhaps? Because here in the US there are actually rather a lot of drugs that are banned. Hundreds of thousands of people in prison for drug-related offenses, actually.
We also had an entire constitutional amendment banning alcohol about a hundred years ago.
Now, I'm not saying these are good things; in fact prohibition was obviously a terrible idea and I'm firmly opposed to the drug war. But when you say that we don't ban drugs and alcohol, well, it rather depends on who you mean by "we".
@Deway The mere fact that "Luddite" is used as a pejorative is some real "history is written by the victors" crap.
Oh no, I'm being compared to skilled craftsmen who fought back against exploitation by big business and secured key labor protections like union recognition. What a devastating insult.
@Zeebor15 What poll was that and what was the wording of the question? Because as of April, Gallup polls showed concern over climate change near an all-time high in the US.
@CookieByte I'm not sure I ever got past the first level of Sonic 2 on Game Gear, precisely because it was designed for SMS resolution and they just cropped it to a tiny viewing area for the GG version. Sonic 1 they put the effort into redesigning the game so you'd have enough space to see what you needed to see.
@Guru_Larry OTOH, animation style isn't everything. The 1989 X-Men pilot ("Pryde of the X-Men") had some pretty impressive animation but was an overstuffed mess that reeked of executive and marketing meddling. The 1992 series didn't look nearly as good but it benefited from the wind at its back from the comic's crossover success under Jim Lee and from the producers (several of them the same ones who'd worked on the previous pilot) winning a lot of the creative arguments they'd lost the last time they tried.
@Azuris Yes, but if they can get it running acceptably under DOSbox then that opens up a lot more options for future releases than using one of the source ports; they might be more interested in that flexibility. I've definitely wondered why they never seem to release any DOS games.
@KainXavier That is what they did with Duke so it wouldn't be surprising.

That's the best CRT filter I've ever seen on an official release (as opposed to a third-party project like an emulator or upscaler).

It's a nice idea but it immediately hits the problem a lot of Game Boy platformers do: the bigger the sprites, the less information there is onscreen.
