Terranigma is coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX and PC in early 2027.
Original character designer Kamui Fujiwara will be providing new key art and in-game designs, as well as feedback. He had this to say:
“30 years ago, Terranigma was released on the SNES. Now, at long last it will be available once again.on console and PC, digital and physical. It may not be exactly the same as it was back then, but I'm sincerely delighted about it making its return to the current gaming environment. During the original's development, I was involved with designing not only the characters, but the world too, and even some of the game settings as well. I hope the themes of god and humanity, creation and destruction, and the atmosphere of the world itself resonate with today's players too. Not as a relic of the past, but as a living, breathing work. This moment has been long awaited and now it is finally here. I hope you will enjoy it with all your heart.”
Original Story []: Clever River Games appears to be teasing a re-release of Quintet's SNES RPG Terranigma, which launched on the SNES back in 1995.
Created by a team that includes Tomoyoshi Miyazaki (director, designer and writer), Kamui Fujiwara (artist) and Reiko Takebayashi (writer), Terranigma is part of a series of titles which also includes Soul Blazer and Illusion of Time. It was only localised for Europe and PAL regions, with no North American version – this has made it quite a sought-after title.
In a new teaser for the upcoming Pixel Arcadia showcase at Gamescom on August 24th, a voice is heard saying:
"Wake up! All the living things in this world await your awakening."
As anyone who has experienced this amazing game will know, that quote fits the theme of resurrection, which is present in many of Quintet's titles.
At the bottom of the screen is a copyright notice which reads:
"Square Enix / Quintet / Kamui Fujiwara"
Fujiwara is the artist behind the game's characters. He has previously said he would love to see the game return in some form. "I am in favour of remaking the game," he told Nintendo Life back in 2021. "I think that with today's technology, [Ark’s] hair could be represented with its original blue colour, and I would like to do that. Blue is a symbol, it’s the colour of the Earth incarnation."
