Here's some Wizardry news for you - all hot off the presses! The Super Famicom version of Wizardry VI is getting a rerelease next year on Steam, courtesy of D4 Enterprise and Drecom (though sadly with Japanese-language options only).

The announcement was made earlier today, as part of Wizardry Day, the date selected to commemorate the anniversary of the Wizardry series each year, and was one of a number of announcements that also included the arrival of albums (like We Love Wizardry, SUITE WIZARDRY Ⅱ: LEGACY OF LLYLGAMYN, SUITE WIZARDRY Ⅲ: Knight of Diamonds, and SUITE WIZARDRY Ⅴ: HEART OF THE MAELSTROM) on streaming platforms worldwide.

Wizardry VI was originally released by Sir Tech in 1990 for DOS, Mac, and Amiga, and was the first title in the series where design was credited exclusively to David Bradley, with series creator Andrew Greenberg having left the series to co-found the company Masterplay Publishing (where he helped create the board games Star Saga One: Beyond the Boundary & Star Saga: Two - The Clathran Menace).

After its release, Wizardry VI would arrive on Japanese computers the following year, but wouldn't make its console debut until 1995, when Game Studio and ASCII brought the title to the Super Famicom. A Sega Saturn port also followed in 1996; however, like the Super Famicom title, it was also exclusive to Japan.

Here's the official summary:

A hundred and twenty years ago, there lived a lord as wicked as any who ever ruled, and a sorcerer whose evil matched his own. The two joined forces and waged a magical war to destroy every evil power but their own.

In the midst of that war, they learned of "it" — a magic pen whose every written word becomes reality... the Cosmic Forge.

They seized the pen and began weaving terror into the very fabric of the cosmos. But it was not long before the two grew envious of each other's power, and a final battle broke out to decide both their fates and the pen's.

What happened after that, no one knows.

And now, adventurers who may yet change the fate of the pen and the cosmos are about to set foot within the castle's walls......

The Super Famicom version of Wizardry #6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, released in Japan in 1995, comes to Steam with its original atmosphere intact. Experience the tension that only the genuine article of classic computer RPGs can deliver, through first-person dungeon exploration and turn-based command battles.

A Steam page for the game is already live, if you want to wishlist the game ahead of its release.
