I keep having to read people going "oh my god, it's such come a long way, we're doomed, we may as well give up, give up guys, stop resisting guys, c'mon guys the future is now guys why are you complaining guys it's so over guys" and it's just like... am I just a hidden genius or something? Because over the past few years I've ALWAYS been able to spot genAI fairly easily and seen relatively few miniscule improvements to the most obvious tells. I don't consider myself especially intelligent so are people parroting this "just give up, it's over, we can't tell anymore" tripe blind?
Rock Band did always feel more mature to me as someone who loved both series. As an IRL drummer, Pro Drums in Rock Band 3 is the most accurate rhythm game drums ever felt to real life.
I suppose DrumMania/GITADORA drums can compete, but man, I just can't read that game's charts for the life of me.
Even if you use a 16:9 screen can't you just put bezel over it to make it look 4:3 and run the games in 4:3? Why don't companies who insist on using 16:9 screens just do that if they're desperate to save those pennies?
@axelhander I'm begging you to stop pointlessly coming into every post about AI to whine about it being "fearmongering".
It looked cheap and bad. People could tell immediately. People don't like cheap and bad. Solve for (x). Maximilian Dood, someone often accused of "toxic positivity", paused the trailer seconds in without having to be told it was AI and said "are you kidding me?"
For me, City of the Wolves is the best current fighting game on the market, I have more fun booting it up and playing sets than I do Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8. But good lord, is it just in their design document that every time they get people excited, they have to do something stupid as hell to pop that balloon immediately?
Yeah, I'm not surprised. Metacritic user ratings are absolutely worthless. Every game nowadays gets bombed for the most nonsensical reasons. Gran Turismo 7 sat at like a 2 or a 3 for ages iirc. And don't you DARE make a game that becomes the target of the anti-woke YouTubers [read; has a female main character or a rainbow]
I've never enjoyed most RPGs, usually turn-based ones, but I think we all have exceptions to our no-go genres. For me, it's Shining in the Darkness alongside Chrono Trigger.
@Hexapus This style is how pro players use modern Playstation controllers for Tekken and King of Fighters. If it's a four-button fighter, claw style.
The six button Mega Drive and Saturn controllers were also definitely meant to be used with your palm facing down and multiple fingers used ala how you'd play a Street Fighter machine. Shoulder/trigger buttons are the Devil himself for fighting games. Get that SNES pad in the bin.
Money no object and you like the Dreamcast controller, go for it. Money very much an object or you don't like the Dreamcast controller, don't go for it. That's my entire review.
@Coalescence Karl Jobst has always just felt like a grifter making his money off of leeching off whatever was the hot topic at the time, presenting his faux-journalism as fact and doing the typical grifter thing of "I'm Doing This For All You Gamers, I Represent You, An Attack On Me Is An Attack On You". Even when he's happened to choose the right side of history it's rare he ends up not doing more harm than good to the community he decides to pretend to know about. Couldn't tell you how many outsiders pretending to be experts we had to deal with in the Clone Hero community after his BIG SCOOP on Schmooey.
It's 2026 and we still have video game grading discourse? Everybody knows the people buying into this aren't bright. Let them waste their money and win their Darwin awards all they want.
@cawley1 "At this point, you know they suck, and most of their products have issues so just avoid those, and bingo! Stop complaining!" Come on, man. What was even the point of that comment? Why are you acting like the people making fun of them are still active customers who are still buying? We're not. Why did you write "most of their stuff sucks so just avoid that" as if it was some kind of softening defense? What... what were you even /going/ for?
@Eocene84 "woke is when i don't like it" is thankfully dying a deservedly painful death. Even the gaming Twitter grifters have been jabbing their index fingers and going "so, uh... all the minorities, all forgiven, right?" lately.
While I respect Space Invaders as someone who was born in 1999, I've never found it much fun. It's just... too limited. Much like Galaxian to me. However, it's when you get into the early 80s you start finding games that even people like me absolutely obsess over. Galaga is probably the biggest example, that game's so much fun. Williams games while I find few fun outside of Wizard Of Wor, I like because of how LOUD and FLASHY they are to compensate for perhaps less refined gameplay. Marble Madness is also up there. Then when you get to the mid 80s, Sega's output really starts kicking off and that's where my love truly begins.
Crazy to imagine just being in an arcade at the right place at the right time playing Donkey Kong could lead to you having to demonstrate Nintendo's games in court. I always remember Maximilian Dood's hilarious quote about how you had to present your game in court cases back then when watching a Fighter's History vs Street Fighter 2 copyright case - "Remember, you're presenting this to a judge who is approximately 190 years old. They have never seen a television. Go."
Some people really need to learn that not every single game is meant to be their dream come true. Especially fan projects.
Meet things on its creator's own terms or don't. It's not hard. Things like this get made because the creator just wanted to. Some people really don't like Mega Man 1 compared to the rest of the NES series. Let people that are not you have things.
It's so tiring that you genuinely can't have something like this posted about without the comments being complaining about what it isn't rather than actually giving a damn about what it is.
One thing I feel doesn't get enough love about this game is how unique the final boss is. It's cheap as hell, because 90's arcade fighter, but the sheer spectacle and the hilarious death scene of the cowards when they finally bite the dust make it so memorable. Just love the almost silently comedic fall-splat-HELICOPTER.
Itagaki's passing, Tagawa's passing, Harada leaving Namco after working on the Tekken franchise since the beginning... now Nishimura's also passed. Rough year for fighting games.
Always loved Akuma's menacing grunts in Third Strike, but it has to be the terrifying Bison end boss from Alpha 3 that the man's fighting game legacy shines brightest to me. Probably the most intimidating Bison as a final boss has ever been because for the first and last time in a proper Street Fighter game, continues were disabled at the final boss - lose the match and you get the bad ending. Made it terrifying when you saw the guy with full Super just waiting to unleash that PSYCHO CRUSHAAAAA and take 80% of your health bar.
Your comment history shows all we need to know, really.
Also does anyone else think Sammy Salazar sounds like a name they'd give to one of Don Corneo's perverted goons that Tifa and Aerith beat up or is it just me?

@Guru_Larry I was about to "uhm acktyually", but now that I think about it, even though you can tell where the GTA games take place, they never do actually NAME the city... You can tell for example that GTA4 takes place in New York, but they make sure to ever call it that.
@OdysseyPoint Then you can "1-to-1 copy" it yourself, can't you? It's so easy after all, it's nothing but 1-to-1 copying.
I don't understand people like you who always have this contradictory take of "Your work is not valuable enough to deserve credit despite being valuable enough for me to take". Pure selfishness from people who don't have knowhow yet want to act like an authority. If you take something, give credit. It doesn't matter what it is or where you drew your artificial self-satisfactory line of smugly going "well you didn't do enough to DESERVE it now, did you"? If you're using things that other people worked on and passing them off as your own, you won't last in any community.
@Coalescence Not really, the major plot points are identical. Any deviation is usually for the moments inbetween to further develop characters. The two "major" deviations in Rebirth for instance that you're probably quick to say are 1) an alternate dimension/timeline and 2) Cloud's imagination.
