Re: Sounds Like Plaion Has Another Console In The Works Following The Neo Geo AES+

With all the preorders sold so far exceeding Plaion’s expectations. I really hope they get this right. With this ASIC chips they are one and done, no firmware updating to fix issues afterwards. I own Plaion’s Atari 2600+ and it’s great, but it took a lot of firmware updates to get it to that state and it’s a very simple console.

I’ve never used an original AES but they’ll be a lot of people comparing the new controllers to the original.

I decided to go all in with the Ultimate pack and will happily continue to collect future released games if the accuracy is extremely close to the original.

@slider1983 “ It's quite a long list of companies by the way”

Absolutely, but by choosing not to cover one company and not others, it’s a bit selective isn’t it?

I mean SNK ownership is as follows:

“SNK Corporation is primarily owned by the Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC), a subsidiary of the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (MiSK Foundation) from Saudi Arabia. As of April 2022, EGDC holds 96.18% of SNK's shares, effectively placing control under Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.“

So the top guy is MBS, who personally ordered the killing of a journalist and rules an autocratic regime with poor human rights record, but it’s ok for TE to cover SNK.

Meanwhile, Palmer Luckey, who founded “military contractor Anduril Industries, a military technology company focused on autonomous drones and sensors for military applications” owns Modretro.

Which of the two people is worse? I think it’s pretty obvious.

By making a statement saying you will no longer cover Modretro stuff, you drew a virtuous line in the sand.

By doing so you’ve left yourself open to criticism when covering other companies or products with controversial links to states or people.

This SNK NeoGeo AES+ news came right out of the blue and took the “retro” world by storm.

You could make a statement advising you won’t cover SNK stuff due to being owned by the Saudis, but you fully know you’d be shooting yourselves in the foot.

So the question is, do you stay virtuous and stick to your portrayed principles and not cover SNK anymore for moral reasons? Or do you swallow your pride and cover SNK news as to not do so would negatively affect traffic to this site.

My guess is you’ll keep posting articles about SNK because it’s in the site’s interest. I’m glad you referenced the hypocrisy in this article, but this all was a problem of your own making.
