I think AI speaks for itself. when AI is used to create things the results unless its used as a helper tool or for prototyping are second rate. I do video work and one of my customers decided they were gonna set up cameras everywhere and invest in AI to do the same video work I did for them every week. The results are generic and of less quality. of course it is, but it's "good enough" and in the long run they save money but they lost a professional videographers skills which made the video enjoyable to watch. At first people complained "what happened?" but now they have accepted the way it is and lost more than half their viewers, but guess what? Gamers will never accept "good enough" Even the best AI created original games if you can call anything done completely with gen AI original are at best a fascinating experiment but do not hold a candle to games created by humans. You can't stop AI because its here to stay but at the end of the day it will never replace talent.

wow i still dont know who these people are. it outsold the commodore ultimate??!! I dont know anyone that would want this but i guess Im completely out of touch with the less features is a feature flip phone people. im american and old enough to have been an amiga user but im in college with mostly young people so you think i would be somewhat aware. is this a trend among rich people? im not rich and neither is anyone i know so im thinking that has to be it.

It's hard for me to have confidence in a company that would release something like this.

@Johnny_Arthur I really liked Battle Tanx and have it on my handheld for nostalgia. I was an Amiga (500) and Atari (130xe) user when 3do came out and thought the 3do could be the potential next generation Amiga/Atari style system and since it didn't rely on one company it couldn't be snuffed out like Atari and Commodore, but even though I had high hopes and everything sounded good on paper (Next Generation magazine) the 3do players were too expensive and then came the Playstation and N64. It's hard for me to believe someone could resurrect the 3do and bring out a modern console when the much more popular Amiga still remains dormant (as far as an official new Amiga) more than 30 years after Commodore's demise unless you count a flip phone which I don't.

@Thad Like you say not even the current Atari would release a Jaguar mini for obvious reasons and the 3d0 has even less to offer as far as nostalgia. The 3Do didnt have anything original that wasn't eventually available and more popular on the Playstation., so Gex was somewhat popular but more people played it on Sony's console. To be fair for a moment in time the 3do version of Wolfenstein 3d was considered the best. Loading it up in an emulator I can see why, but it hardly warrants a mini console. There is no market for this and reviving the brand to release a modern 3do that can compete with the likes of Steam, Nintendo and Sony is the longest longshot of them all. Don't get me wrong we all need to dream and I wish him luck with his.

Who is this for? You can buy a flip phone for literally $0 in the US sure it doesn't look as cool but it accomplishes the same thing and if it's for kids then why on earth are you giving them a $500 flip phone with some retro styling? If it's for senior citizens like traditional flip phones are marketed at they don't care about any of the extra features because they buy flip phones for their simplicity and low price(!) so who is this for? The loyal Commodore faithful who will buy anything to support their favorite brand that they grew up with. $100 or $150 I could see but $500 is insane and at that price it doesn't seem much different from the Italian Commodore selling rebranded cheap products with the commodore name.

@slider1983 opinions, to me it's like a million times better. it's a shame it only made it to two relatively obscure systems. It's loads better than the original but I mean if you like the original zool2 is alot faster so I can see where you might prefer the original. The thing is no one got a chance to play it because like what a few thousand people bought the Amiga cd32 and Atari Jaguar only game. By the time it came out 2d was going out of style anyway, but it is a fun play now especially the jaguar version which has better sound and nowadays you don't have to deal with that crazy controller. Bigpemu is a great Jag emulator if you want to give it another try I guarantee it improves on the original.

The real gem is not Zool on Megadrive or anything else it's Zool 2 on the Amiga and Atari Jaguar that game is the best Zool game and maybe the best and fastest platformer from that era.

As a long time Atari fan (my first computer was an Atari 400) I have to say the modern Atari is the best Atari since their hey day. When I was a kid Atari was a magical company that meant fun in the arcades and at home. They had their moments and to be fair they were competing with giants when the Tramiels took over but it was generally a down hill slide from then on... I don't think they really got their act together properly until just a few years ago, now they know who their fans are and what they want. I generally prefer Shmups, fps and rpg but I picked up Bubsy 4d just last weekend and I am having tons of fun with it.. I just hope they release a new 800xl with a working keyboard, but that might just be my dream.

why would Atari want to move there? TAXES TAXES TAXES

I would be happy if they release anything full size with working keyboard, even it was emulation you could switch it up for a tang nano 20k fpga and with the atari 800 core. I love the way the 800xl looks and 8-bit Atari was my first and you never forget your first. The amount of amazing quality games that has come out in the last 10 years for the 8-bit Atari means they could load it up with classics and homebrews. I hope its not just another mini.

I prefer the Genesis to the SNES, but in the case of Zool the SNES is the better version. That said the Genesis version is closer to the Amiga original.

if only they would make a Atari 800xl version I would be entering my debit card as we speak!!

@bobrocks95 I had to laugh at Stockholm Syndrome'd from owning an Amiga! So true, although there were awesome games that ran on my Amiga 500 like Lionheart, Alien Breed, Chaos Engine etc.. I totally remember convincing myself that Zool and Super Frog were just as good as Mario and Sonic lol

We all know the real reason. Why aren't they making installing any kind of homebrew patch void the warranty when that would solve the issue? The real reason is they know eventually there will be patches and updates coming that will enchance the c64u in ways that they won't be able to monetize, like for example the ability to simulate other platforms , but in the end it doesn't really matter every console that exists is jailbroken but you need to find a vulnerability first which will likely happen with the c64u eventually anyway.

@Kenoddis Considering they are advertising it as not emulation or FPGA replica I think maybe the guys who worked on the mister core understand the original consoles architecture better than anyone that doesn't mean they are using their core in this

@Atariboy came here to say exactly this. The flashback 2 was everything in the 2600 on one chip. I know the 3do is much more complicated but they are implying they reverse engineered the original chips and then made new ones but if its official couldn;t they just take the original chip and streamline them down to something smaller and more affordable. I guess what I;m saying is if you can do that with a c64 (in the case of the c64 stick) why not the 3do?

I picked up the Steam version which is really just a custom emulator playing a rom, but I play my shmups on my Powkiddy rgb20sx which has a great 4"x4" screen. I understand why people that collect og hardware and games would want the cartridge but I feel like if I paid for the Steam game why should I have to go threw hoops to get the rom (uncompress/decrypt...)?? I don't get the reasoning, because people that want the cart are gonna wait and if you are worried about losing sales to the people writing the rom to a flash cart then why wait all this time? As I can see from the comments bootleg cart versions are already making the rounds... anyway none of this takes anything away from the fact this game is awesome and one of if not the best shmups for the Genesis/Megadrive.

this is a hair trigger response to seeing "ai" and dismissing it out of hand. they are not using AI to indirectly steal another persons code or artwork or music by using other peoples work to create generic slop. This is just a way to speed up the tedious conversion of code from one platform to another which is the type of thing AI does well.

The blue one with the outline of Sonic is awesome and I'm sure somone with a lot more money to burn than me will buy it.

very very short, dialog is good and does seem very Alienish, sound fx will make a huge difference as far as building tension. Point and Click games aren't easy to pull off on consoles but this one has promise.

I play the Atari recharged games on my laptop and they are fun! If it can run those games and it has a paddle controller please Atari bring on Tempest 2000 and tempest 4000... those games are a no brainer!!!

Defectors sounds like it might be fun. One of my guilty pleasures is playing bezerk (or Krazy shootout on the 8bit atari, Frenzy on MAME etc). Those simple shooters ramp up the speed and put you in the zone.

this is what i don't understand. if you truly want to preserve this stuff then rip it and upload the roms to the usual places... problem solved. Am I missing something? If Sega sent this to be destroyed and it got out into the public, then they have every right to want that back.

I'd buy that paddle/spinner controller pad if it works with Windows/Linux and use it for Tempest 2000 and the other paddle/spinner games. If they sell it seperately i predict it will sell out in a week. I already have a retro linux handheld these things are low priced Linux based mini pc's. If you buy the right one, you can get a well built handheld with every game from atari up to psp/dreamcast/ps1/n64 era and spend about 60 bucks including shipping (plus the time it takes to put the roms on the sd cards..). Thats like getting 100,000 games for less than what it costs to fill your gas tank up. i dont think Atari's handheld is for people like me but more for the casual gamer or a great Christmas present for you dad, grandad etc.. who loves Atari. After all these years and changing hands Atari is finally giving people what they want.

I love the 2d Sonic games. I remember playing this game back in day, but this new PC version looks awesome. I wonder if they will get takedown notices from Sega for something like this I can't tell you how many recompilations and indie pc games are ruined by lackluster controller support in Windows. Meanwhile every emulator has perfect support for any type of USB or Bluetooth controller you throw at it.

I wish they would make an A1200 case with a cool upgraded fpga Amiga inside. I think despite there being more former c64 owners overall there is a bigger demand for a modernized Amiga. At least there are people that want one. I wonder if something like that is in the pipelilne.
