@sixrings Devil car was in RR, the Angel car came in for RRR, along with the Devil!
Agreed, it's all a bit rushed with the menus and end of the race, which is arcade through and through, sadly. Both reasons I prefer the PS1 release, though I am still enjoying this one overall.
@sixrings I remember it most because of the Devil car waiting for you. Was so intimidating at the time, having to keep it at bay and being pretty much perfect for a few laps. I liked that it was also present on the reverse track setup.
@Gs69 I think I agree completely with that. Since commenting, I'm loving it more due to the leaderboards and that'll make me come back more, but still wish we had the Galaga intro, extra cars, reverse track options, view (not that I use the behind the car view), Namco PS1 specific advertising boards and Devil car challenge. The 'replay' at the end of the race cutting very short too is annoying.
It could be due to nostalgia (as I had RR on the PS1 around launch) but after playing this AA release, I much prefer the PS1 version, even if this one looked better.
Games that rush you through menus and are set up to take as many tokens or your money as possible don't for me translate into great games. Glad I picked it up as it's still RR, but it just makes me want to go back and play my PS1 RR.
I think if anything, there is a chance it could increase interest in the original releases further and push them up! More of an audience who then get the bug and start to explore older consoles and libraries of games.
@tofuman86 If you mean those who send games off for grading to be sealed inside plastic (or whatever it's made out of) and suddenly think they are worth significantly more, I completely agree!
@NeonPizza Interestingly, I play with a third-person camera for almost all racing games, yet I never did for Ridge Racer as it's the only way I have ever known to play it using the 'bonnet cam'.
It's disappointing to think that I won't be racing the Devil car (13th Racing) in Time Trial. Content was never RR's strong point but now it'll be even more bare I think! A shame, but I'll take what I can get for the original RR games on newer systems!
@bring_on_branstons Oooops, I am silly. I am not used to Arcade Archives releases and was thinking of the PS1 release and features rather than that of the arcade version.
I didn't realise there were any real differences except for the loading game. That's a shame and with it being an arcade release, I assume even on Playstation consoles it can't come with the PS1 specific changes/additions.
Really looking forward to this. Despite being just one track, the nostalgia I have for the game hasn't waned since I played it back on the PS1 and I love everything about it - the look, sound, gameplay all held up for me better than any of the other games.
I could be in the minority but this is my favourite Ridge Racer. Ridge Racer 2 and RR Revolution I enjoy as well, but after that I wasn't as interested with Type 4, Rage Racer, 5 and 6.
@Moroboshi876 I don't know anything much about these releases, so am I understanding correctly that they do have trophy support, but no platinums on PS4 and PS5?
I assume the Strictly Limited 'version' will also be fully Japanese and not localised in English (just like the one I pre-ordered on Amazon Japan) but it would be good to know.

I love my Majoras Mask N3DSXL and wouldn't even sell it for that price as some things mean more than money.

Re: Arcade Archives' 'Ridge Racer' Rerelease Won't Be A Switch 2 Exclusive After All
@NeonPizza Was Ridge Racer 2 basically Ridge Racer Revolution (or the other way around) but again probably with less content than the PS1 game?

@Moroboshi876 I'm such a big fan I'll get it on PS5 and Switch I think.
I'm quite proud that in my younger days I beat the Devil car in this game and the Angel car in RRR.

@KingMike Wasn't that Adidas Power Soccer? I think that might have been a totally different game and not Actua Soccer rebranded.
I could be wrong though.
