All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! It's time to jump into another bug hunt, as publisher Commodore International has released a Steam demo for the upcoming compendium Alien Breed: 35th Anniversary Collection.
Launching later this month on PC and console platforms, the Alien Breed Collection contains all six titles from the series' first era, which took the Amiga market by storm back in the early 1990s. Developed by British studio Team17, the Alien Breed series featured notoriously unforgiving, top-down gameplay, with an aesthetic and narrative style wholly derived from James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi masterpiece, Aliens.
The 35th Anniversary Collection contains the original Alien Breed (1991) as well as the expanded Alien Breed '92 Special Edition (1992), Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (1993), Alien Breed: Tower Assault (1994), and the series' first forays into first-person with Alien Breed 3D (1995) and Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds (1996).
Following the latter release, the Alien Breed series retreated to hibernation, quietly re-emerging in the '00s with a series of mediocre-to-decent sequels and even a return to the top-down style of its predecessors.
In addition to the games themselves, the Anniversary Collection includes a number of upgrades, extras, and quality-of-life features, including save states, screen filters, adaptable UI, widescreen support, a virtual museum, and additional modes: Online Rush and Horde. It looks to be more than a fitting tribute to the legendary shooter series, if only I could shake this uncanny feeling I have about that cover art, ya dig?
Alien Breed: 35th Anniversary Collection launches September 24 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. A demo is now live on PC via Steam.
