It's very sad to have lived long enough to see the battle for the soul of video games. I grew up in the NES era, when there were fewer games and each one felt more meaningful, filled with that sense of discovery and raw creativity that made you excited to turn on the console. Seeing games that were once created and driven by passion slowly turn into corporate products driven by profit and microtransactions is disheartening. Thankfully, much of that original spirit lives on in the indie scene, where passionate developers are still creating games that prioritise joy over monetisation. I hope that we as consumers can help true creators like Gregg find new homes, whether that's through supporting crowdfunding campaigns, buying from independent studios, or simply following their future projects. We need to show the industry that we want games filled with creativity and passion, the kind that made us fall in love with gaming in the first place.
@JJtheTexan "Biggums Goes to Rhodesia" was good, but "Big Jim's African Safari Smash" had better gameplay. The combo system where you had to time the jeep jumps with the tranquilizer dart shots was way ahead of its time. The graphics in "Mustache Mike's Migrant Manhunt" were obviously a huge influence on the iD team and can be clearly seen in the sprites used in DOOM years later, especially in how they handled the enemy animation frames and those distinctive muzzle flashes. It's a shame "Biggums" suffered from that rushed development cycle, if they'd had another six months to polish the collision detection and add more variety to the diamond mine levels, it could have been remembered as fondly as the other two.
I have Free Heroes 2 on my RG353V and RG351V (and laptop), and it works beautifully! I remember getting a demo CD-Rom (yes, I'm old) with "Computer Gaming World" magazine that had a HoMM2 demo on it. I played it for YEARS. I actually found that demo disk a few years ago, which is what made me think of HoMM2 and is how I found "Free Heroes 2". Much respect to the team for creating this, and I am so happy to be able to play this classic again.
I have the exact “Skeleton Black” model as in the pictures. I never thought I’d love it as much as I do, and I’m playing around with different OS, and even trying my hand at adding basic trophies/achievements to a game I like on Gameboy (check out RetroAchievements). I still love my Switch, PS Vita, and original Gameboy Color, but this just reminded me how much I love the old games. I rediscovered Advance Wars (preordered the remakes Switch because I played them on my V), and super excited at the possibility of GB & GBC games being added to Switch online (because I play them on my V). I love this device, but that doesn’t mean everyone else must love it, too. 😁

I'm not a cruel or violent person, and I wouldn't harm anyone on purpose, but... ... ...this rubbish needs to be thrown into an active volcano.
