NES Metroid, here, in the late 80s when I was four or five. My older cousin was a big NES fan. I didn't actually beat Metroid until highschool, though lol
You can totally play it on your back, but you have to have the stand attached or otherwise, yes, it's too heavy for your face. The stand spreads some of the weight to your torso. Still not exactly comfortable, but is the way I play and has been for a while lol
If I can get my hands on this (I have one of those Ditto mini flashcarts, not sure if that can run this emulator), between it and my backlit modded Pokemon Mini, I am going to drain the HECK out of some batteries lol
@EarthboundBenjy I'm fairly certain we'll be able to play these without either the $100 piece of plastic or the $25 cardboard. The system isn't going to be able to tell if it's inserted, say, in the cardboard, right? So it will just be two images side by side on the Switch 2 screen, meaning it should run just fine at least portably. I would be completely baffled if there is truly no way to play these games without the add ons (I assume they're saying they're required to play the games in 3D, and don't want to cannibalize sales by indicating right out of the gate that you don't need the things they want you to buy).
Also, if anyone DOES want to buy complete in box Virtual Boy games, know that the Japanese boxes in particular are notorious for being reprints and sold as real, fyi
Yeah, Virtual Bowling and * spits * Virtual Lab are why I'm content to just have the complete North American CIB collection of Virtual Boy games, no WAY am I paying anywhere near that amount for a dang bowling game, no matter how good it is lol
My first CV game, despite having an NES in 1990 and a Sega Genesis when Sonic 2 came out, was Circle of the Moon all the way later on the GBA. I've since gone back and beat the whole series (other than the Lords of Shadows games and the 3D entries on N64) and adore pretty much all of it.
Super Castlevania IV is up there as having one of the best soundtracks on the SNES, and that's saying a lot considering some of the absolute classics on that system.
I'd heard on an old Retronauts that Final Fantasy IX in Japanese was chock full of references to earlier games, but I was unaware of most of it (they didn't really go into detail). A Sasune reference! We'd have all missed it at the time in English at least, but as a huge FF3 fan now, I sort of retrospectively miss the reference
Of course a few months after I finally pull the trigger on a Vectrex, they announce a mini console lol. Still, AMOLED is nice, but it won't exactly replicate the original hardware experience, so that's something. In any case, this is a cool project! I may pick one up, depending on cost
This sucks - I just placed an order with them literally Sunday, when I got my first PSP Go (I also grabbed some stands for the Game & Watches I have). I'm glad I got an order in under the wire - they shipped them out yesterday. They were always high quality, and pretty often cheaper than everything else you could find on Etsy... Dang.

Re: Switch Isn't Getting A Virtual Boy Controller, So This Modder Has Created The Next Best Thing
I assumed this "modder" would be Kevin Mellott, Virtual Boy modder extraordinaire, but I was wrong! Cool stuff though
