If by replicating you mean emulating then yes, and yes although the architecture is almost identical it's emulating original chip sets, I do fully understand FPGA. However the people who buy it don't, they just think it's 'cool' because 'emulation bad' but they're all suckers who fell for a flawed advertising campaign and pay silly costs for something you can play authentic hardware for one hell of a lot less, all the nostalgia is there , ofc certain things may fail as you have said, there are very simple replacement parts for buttons.
@KingMike Eidos took over domark group and simis around 95 through a reverse takeover, then SCI bought over Eidos in 2005 but they ultimately were bought out in 2009 by SquareEnix.

If you're offended by this you seriously need to get a grip of reality, I am a collector of physical games , over 5k last count but I stopped collecting during last gen, games require an online connection these days, you need to install the game before playing and furthermore there are games that simply do not get printed to the disc , it's nothing more than a digital serial, it's pointless. I really cannot believe people are getting butthurt about this advertisement.🤡
