The sequel to Dungeon Antiqua, Shirofumu Factory's 2024 Wizardry & Final Fantasy-inspired dungeon RPG, has just been released on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Dungeon Antiqua 2 launched on Steam earlier this year, in January, and was described by its developer at the time as a "2D dungeon hack-and-slash RPG... bursting with SNES nostalgia," promising "SNES-style pixel art and sound," six dungeons to explore, and two new job classes over the original (in the form of a monk and an archer) for a total of 10.

The game takes place 100 hundreds of years after the story of Dungeon Antiqua, with players being summoned to create a party of heroes and conquer six locations. The gameplay, meanwhile, is a mix of classic RPG styles, with players exploring a hub town similar to Wizardry where they can purchase items before delving into Final Fantasy-esque top-down dungeons where they'll partake in turn-based battles against everything from hobgoblins to wildlife like giant spiders, snakes, and coyotes.

As players explore, they will only see a limited view of what's around them at any given time, with the rest of the map obscured by "a fog of war". As a result, players will have to be careful about rushing ahead or risk bumping into an awaiting enemy and triggering a battle.

Dungeon Antiqua 2 is currently sitting at a "very positive" rating on Steam after 271 user reviews, and in one of the few press reviews scored an 8 out of 10 from Shack News' contributor Lucas White. In that review, White described its "mixture of Wizardry mechanics with Final Fantasy visuals and combat... a novel concept" and "one that clearly has enough appeal to develop a new series in the indie RPG space," highlighting the similarity between the game's job system and Final Fantasy V's multiclassing.

If you want to give the new console versions a try, it is priced at £8.99/$10.99 across Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox, with a 15% launch discount being available until September 2nd, 2026.
