Exclusive: First Samurai Is Getting A Physical Re-Release On The SNES 1

33 Games is a relative newcomer in the retro gaming space, but it has already made waves with a re-release of Gremlin's 2D platformer Zool on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, and has followed that up with new physical launches for Utopia and Stone Protectors.

Now, the company has told Time Extension exclusively that its next project is First Samurai on the SNES, expected at the start of 2027. 33 Games also confirms that it has something "really special" planned for the release.

First Samurai was developed by Vivid Image and published by Image Works on Amiga and Atari ST in 1991. The SNES version was published by Kemco in 1993 and would feature extensive changes to the level design.

In the same year, Second Samurai would launch on the Amiga, with a Sega Mega Drive / Genesis release following in 1994, published by Psygnosis and Sony Electronic Publishing.

Both games were recently packaged up in The Samurai Collection for modern-day systems.

33 Games also tells us that "there's quite a lot we're not able to reveal just yet, including a major licence we'll be announcing soon."
