Mega Man X: Regenesis, a brand new fan game inspired by Capcom's Mega Man X series, has just been released and is now available as a free download.
Mega Man X: Regenesis is "set in an alternate timeline following the events of Mega Man X" where "Sigma has won, X has fallen, and humanity stands on the brink of extinction." With humanity quickly running out of options, it falls to Dr Cain, the famous roboticist from the previous Mega Man X games, to put into action one final, last-ditch plan in the hopes of turning the tide of battle — Project Regenesis — giving X one final chance to beat Sigma and rescue humanity from its dismal fate once and for all.
The development of the fan game was led by the Mega Man fan developer Justin Ross, who worked alongside a small team of artists including Hugo Neris, Bennascar, and SitHimax to create the "SNES-inspired pixel art." He was also responsible for some of the game's original music, contributing to its "25+ [track] original soundtrack," alongside the musicians JB Sasserman (John Bonham), mega sfc, B-Kimura, Ray Hanly, Evan “Radium” Koutsogiannis, and James Newman.
As mentioned on the itch.io page, Regenesis is available now for PC, Android, & Steam Deck, with a version for Mac "coming soon," and features "Eight brand-new Maverick bosses to defeat," "new Special Weapons [and armour upgrades] to master," "hidden collectables and secrets," and "achievements." There's also full controller support, too, so if you don't like using a keyboard and mouse, there are thankfully other options available.
