, the creator of the 3DS port of Link to the Past, has returned with two more native 3DS ports – one for N64 racer Mario Kart 64 and another for the GBA Zelda, Minish Cap.

Based on SpaghettiKart, the Mario Kart project is "designed specifically around the Nintendo 3DS, with dual-screen features and performance optimizations for real hardware," according to its developer.

The port offers 400x240 gameplay, "with optional 800-pixel rendering on supported models." A wide 5:3 aspect ratio is available, as well as the original 4:3. The bottom display shows the race HUD and supports touch control. EstebanPdN has confirmed that multiplayer is a planned feature.

The Minish Cap port is based on the open-source Minish Cap decompilation, Project Picori, and the dual-screen Android port.

With the aforementioned Zelda port (and the Minish Cap port), EstebanPdN lists Anthropic's Claude Codex as a contributor to the project, but the AI agent isn't listed on the Mario Kart venture. The use of AI in the retro community is a divisive topic at present.

The developer has been very open about their use of AI in these projects. "I don’t mind those comments; nobody is obligated to download it or play it," says EstebanPdN. "I just know that a lot of people [are] enjoying this, maybe even for the first time. That’s good enough for me."
