With Paprium in the news, I’ve been skimming articles on the actual game. Sounds like it only runs on MAME and may require some tweaking. Has anyone successfully emulated this game? Is it even worth my time/effort?

May take extra effort as I’ll be trying it out on my hacked Genesis mini. MAME is real hit-or-miss on there.

Last I knew, it ran with a special fork of MAME but is silent. The "Datenmeister" chip which delivers sound has been identified but has yet to be emulated.

From what I understand of the game, much of it may actually be running from specialised hardware inside of the cartridge, so your conventional Genesis / Mega Drive emulator isn't going to be able to run it.
Much like Rikki & Vikki, an after-market Atari 7800 game that has specialised hardware in the cart that accomplishes far more than the original hardware was capable of. That one has a Steam release though, the developers thought to provide their own bespoke emulator.

Paprium had a Kickstarter to port the game to consoles and they still haven't produced anything of it.

So nobody has chimed in saying it’s a stellar game worth the effort to even attempt emulating with the special MAME builds (without sound, apparently).

No sound?! Damn, it ain’t worth the effort then.
