Re: Every Shining Game, Ranked

Fun fact: Around 2003, The Sword of Hajya got an official release for Palm OS 5 devices, of all things, as part of a Sega Classics initiative. I’ve had the “cartridge” (a MultiMedia card with the software) containing four games from the lineup since 2007 (they could also be purchased separately as downloads). It’s a pretty crappy way to play them, to be honest, in part because Palm OS PDAs tended to have tiny buttons at best that weren’t really designed for games (with the exception of the joystick on the Zire 71), but quite a few developers made it work. The other reason is that the earliest OS 5 PDAs, despite them all switching from the m68k-based processors to ARM, weren’t quite powerful enough to run the emulator at a good speed (that, and the emulators probably weren’t as optimized as they could have been), so despite being Game Gear games on a significantly more powerful handheld, they were sluggish and had issues with sound. Shining Force’s turn-based gameplay doesn’t suffer quite as badly from this, but suffer it does.

I don’t think the games are modified in any way from their original (North American) Game Gear releases; I’d rather leave it to a data miner to confirm that one. Still, I figure this might be mildly interesting to the fandom.

I know this technically goes against the community rules, but I’d like to share a video I made a few years ago, in case anyone wants to see the collection in action. https://youtu.be/NRM7r3qmqmU?si=8sYmDCjBCt9QadFE

Re: Interview: "Localization's Come A Long Way In The Last 25 Years" - The Incredible Story Behind Final Fantasy IX's Epic Translation

The localization of FFIX really made the game capture me - it was the first Final Fantasy I ever got to try for myself, and I got all the way to Evil Forest before I had to leave. The game sold me on the franchise.

I think the team did as good a job as they could have for the time, and I’m grateful to this day for their work (and the work of the entire FF9 dev team).
